Sofia couldn't stay in that room another second. She grabbed her bag, her hands shaking so hard she nearly dropped it, and dashed out into the living room.
"Sofia! What is happening? Where are you going?" Bella shouted, jumping up from the sofa. Her eyes were wide with a performative worry that Sofia was too distracted to see through.
"I have to go. I'll be back," Sofia threw over her shoulder, not stopping. She practically fell down the stairs of the apartment complex.
It was late morning, the sun high and hot in the sky. She fumbled with her phone, her vision blurred by tears, and booked a cab. Luckily, the Full Moon Pack territory was close to the city outskirts. Within minutes, a car pulled up. Sofia scrambled inside, her heart hammering.
The drive took less than an hour, but it felt like a lifetime. Every mile closer to the pack borders made the dull ache in her chest sharpen.
"Please be okay." She whispered in tears.
