Chapter 145: The Strongest Team's Crushing Victory
"What… what is that…"
The moment The Human Asura appeared, the dozen or so agents from the Abyss Man Counter Strategy Bureau went pale.
It was over two meters tall, its head nearly brushing the ceiling of the carriage. Dark red light flickered across its pitch black body like a living pulse. Its face had no features at all.
Only pressure.
Only dread.
"S Shoot! Shoot!"
As The Human Asura advanced step by step, the agents panicked and opened fire.
The once quiet carriage exploded into noise. Gunfire hammered like heavy rain, muzzle flashes strobing the dim space. Brass casings rattled across the carpet in rapid succession.
More than a dozen semi automatic handguns emptied into The Human Asura at once.
Its towering body swayed slightly.
That was all.
It did not fall. It did not stop. It kept walking forward, slow and steady, as if the bullets were nothing more than thrown pebbles.
"How can this be…"
Even after their magazines ran dry, the agents kept pulling the triggers by reflex, fingers trembling.
They stared at The Human Asura, which looked completely unharmed after taking the entire volley, and the fear in their eyes turned into outright panic.
What is that thing?
Isn't it an Abyss Man? Aside from immortality, Abyss Men shouldn't have any special powers! Then why… why can that man in black summon a monster like this?!
"Retreat! Retreat!"
The leading agent sucked in a breath, about to order everyone back into the next carriage.
But Iwanaga Kotoko raised her hand toward the passage between cars, her navy purple eyes shining with a strange light.
"Undead Touch."
The moment her voice fell, dozens of pale arms erupted along the wall and floor at the entrance to the next carriage.
Twisted. Writhing. Unnatural.
"What… what is this now…"
The agent closest to the door recoiled in terror. He tried to turn and run, but a ghostly hand clamped around his ankle.
He fell hard.
Before he could even scream, more pale arms surged up from the floor and crawled over him like a nest of snakes. His eyes went wide, then instantly dulled. Bright red blood seeped from his eye sockets.
A small twitch.
Then nothing.
The other agents staggered back, horror spilling across their faces. They tried to flee from the wall of pale arms, but the moment they turned, they saw The Human Asura was already on them.
One agent's head was in its hand.
A muffled crack sounded.
The Human Asura crushed the skull as easily as breaking fruit. Blood and brain matter dripped onto the train floor.
"This… this… what do we do…"
In front, a black monster that could crush a man's head with one hand.
Behind, a writhing carpet of pale arms.
Forward was death. Backward was death.
Their faces drained of hope.
Then, in the next second, they did something no one expected.
"We surrender! We surrender!"
They threw their firearms onto the carpet, hands raised as they dropped to their knees.
"Please… please don't kill us…"
Asagiri wasn't surprised.
These agents had professional training, sure, but compared to the Black Watch troops he had faced before, they were in another league entirely.
Leave aside tactics and weapon handling. The most terrifying part of Black Watch was their unshakable will. Fanatical, even.
Back in the zombie Dungeon, a Black Watch tactical squad did not hesitate even when Alice and The Human Asura appeared out of nowhere. Even after being ambushed and losing teammates, they didn't panic. They requested support and immediately counterattacked.
They would never surrender.
They would never yield.
But these Abyss Man Counter Strategy Bureau agents were still ordinary people at the end of the day. Faced with supernatural forces they couldn't resist, and against which bullets were useless, it was natural for their minds to collapse.
Even so…
"Begging for mercy now?" Asagiri's voice was flat. "Don't make me laugh."
As he spoke, he flicked his Rope Dart.
It snapped forward like a strike from a viper, accurately piercing an agent's head. There was no pity in Asagiri's dark eyes, no hesitation, and no emotion in his voice as he continued calmly.
"Necro. Kill them."
"Okay."
Iwanaga Kotoko answered with a smile.
Hundreds of pale arms surged up from the carriage floor, twisting and writhing as they wrapped around the kneeling agents in an instant.
…
Twenty minutes later, Chiba City station platform, Chiba Prefecture.
The platform was nothing like usual.
The entire area had been cordoned off. All civilians had been evacuated. The station was effectively suspended, drowned in a tense, unnatural silence.
Dozens of riot police, fully armored in gear, held shotguns and semi automatic rifles in a tight formation, eyes locked on the train resting at the platform.
"Sniper in position."
Hearing the report in his earpiece, the on site commander confirmed it, then pressed the communicator and issued the next order.
"Prepare to enter the train. Target is suspected to be an Abyss Man. Maintain continuous crossfire. Do not leave any gaps for the target to revive."
"Received."
The Abyss Man Counter Strategy Bureau in this world wasn't useless. As an official agency built specifically to deal with Abyss Men, they naturally had methods designed for them.
The simplest and most effective approach was non lethal suppression, tranquilizer guns, smoke bombs, flashbangs, incapacitate the Abyss Man without killing them outright, so their full health resurrection wouldn't trigger.
But that method had a prerequisite.
The target could not be overwhelmingly dangerous.
This time was different. The four suspects had already killed more than a dozen agents armed with firearms. That alone proved their threat level was extremely high.
So only the other measure remained.
Continuous firepower suppression.
Even if Abyss Man revival was fast, it still took time. If you killed them again and again without leaving a gap, you could keep them suppressed indefinitely.
The mobile unit formed up and began to move, preparing to storm the train.
Then a calm voice sounded from behind them.
"Persona, Alice."
"What…"
The mobile unit members barely had time to turn.
A sweet, soft little girl's voice, bright with laughter, rang out.
"Please die for me."
In an instant, most of the mobile unit stopped breathing and collapsed. They fell straight down like puppets with their strings cut.
Only three remained standing, those who passed the mental strength check and didn't die immediately under Alice's exclusive skill.
They didn't get a chance to recover.
A dazzling light burst from the train window.
Inside the carriage, Yuuki Asuna thrust her Exorcist Longsword forward. The light at the tip of her blade sharpened into something like an arrow and punched through the hard window.
Then it pierced through the chests of two riot officers lined up one behind the other.
The last remaining officer finally reacted. He raised his shotgun and aimed at Yuuki Asuna through the shattered glass.
Before his finger could pull the trigger, something flew out of the carriage.
Bang!!!
A spinning Indian tomahawk slammed into his chest. The force behind it was monstrous. It hurled his body several meters before he crashed to the ground.
His riot gear didn't matter.
His chest bones, his organs, everything inside was shattered by the impact.
Far away, dozens of meters out, the sniper stationed at a high point saw the scene unfold and immediately swung his rifle scope toward the first man who had appeared, the one in a black long windbreaker and dark gray mask.
But as the scope shifted, something drifted into the sniper's peripheral vision.
He instinctively turned his head.
A terrifying puppet face stared at him from point blank range.
The next second, Prototype Mita opened its mouth and lunged like a python. It bit directly into the sniper's neck, yanked him off the ledge, and slammed him down from several meters up.
Blood splashed. A bright red pattern spread across the ground.
The entire sequence took less than five seconds.
The mobile unit was wiped out.
"Hehufu~"
Kato Megumi walked to the fallen officer, crouched, and calmly pulled her Indian tomahawk free.
"Even though they were fully armed and holding firearms, we handled them easily."
"Normal," Asagiri replied as he stepped toward the on site commander's body. "Through your ability, we took the first move. And they clearly didn't realize we have supernatural powers."
He knelt and took the commander's phone.
"If he was the on site commander, his position in the Abyss Man Counter Strategy Bureau should be higher than the others."
Asagiri's eyes narrowed slightly.
"Let's see what valuable information he has."
