Chapter 58 - Chapter 58: The Improvised Banquet

Twilight painted the clearing in violet and amber when Kai gave the order. Torches already burned low on wooden posts, casting dancing shadows across the spread furs in the center of the village. The heavy scent of the oil ritual still lingered: jasmine, pack musk, and freshly marked feline sweat. But Kai wanted more.

"Eat," he said simply, pointing to the makeshift tables of flat logs loaded with ripe fruits, roasted venison from that morning's deer, baked tubers, and overflowing baskets of fresh herbs the originals had gathered. "Tonight there are no originals or newcomers. Only hunger and laughter."

A murmur ran through the semicircle. The catgirls settled into irregular circles around the low fires. Lira immediately pressed against Kai's right thigh, purring softly as she offered him a juicy piece of meat between her fingers. Mira settled to his left, more relaxed, slicing fruit with a small dagger and deliberately letting the juice drip down her chin. Sylva remained kneeling nearby, collar glinting, catching bits Mira tossed to her like a puppy.

The newcomers sat farther back at first, still carrying the fresh scent of oil and bruised pride. But hunger won. Soon everyone was eating: quick bites, rough tongues licking juice from fingers, tails moving happily for the first time in days.

Then it happened.

One of Sylva's former warriors—short cinnamon ears, named Tira—reached into a basket and pulled out a handful of dark green leaves with jagged edges. She sniffed them, frowned.

"Is this edible?" she asked aloud.

Nia, sitting nearby, shrugged without looking.

"Sure. Moon grass. Relaxes the muscles."

Tira smiled for the first time since the surrender and stuffed several leaves into her mouth. She chewed eagerly. Two more followed her lead: Ryn and another with silver ears. The originals exchanged quick glances. Lira stifled a giggle against Kai's thigh. Mira simply smiled slowly, as if she knew exactly what was coming.

They were not moon grass.

They were starflower leaves, a variety that grew in damp clearings. Edible, yes… but in large amounts they caused mild euphoria, uncontrollable purring, and a disinhibition that bordered on ridiculous.

Five minutes later, Tira let out the first exaggerated purr. It was a deep, vibrating sound that rumbled from her chest like a broken engine. Her ears shot up, eyes glassy, and she began swaying side to side as if hearing music no one else could.

"Mmmrrrrooooonnnggg!" she purred, dragging the syllable until it sounded absurd. Several originals burst into low laughter.

Ryn was not far behind. She stood unsteadily, tail whipping the air like a drunken whip, and began clumsy circles around the fire. Her hips moved in uncoordinated loops, breasts bouncing, as she tried to imitate a hunting dance she had clearly half-forgotten.

"I'm… I'm the queen of the forest!" she shouted, tripping over her own tail and landing hard on her ass amid laughter. The impact made her breasts jiggle, and several newcomers covered their mouths, caught between horror and amusement.

The euphoria spread like wildfire. Another black-eared catgirl started rolling across the furs, purring so loudly the ground vibrated. Two more hugged without reason, rubbing cheeks and laughing like kittens. The air filled with wild purring, high-pitched giggles, and the occasional accidental moan when a fruit-slick hand grazed a nipple.

Kai watched it all with a half-smile, cock hardening beneath the fabric at the sight of naked or half-naked bodies writhing in innocent laughter and pleasure. Lira climbed into his lap, rubbing slowly against his erection while whispering:

"This is better than any punishment."

Then came the moment no one expected.

Tira, still spinning like a drunken top, stumbled forward and fell right onto Ryn, who was trying to stand. Their mouths collided by accident: lips against lips, rough tongues brushing for a second before both pulled back with wide eyes.

Absolute silence.

Then an explosion of collective laughter. The originals howled, the newcomers covered their faces bright red, but they ended up laughing too. Tira and Ryn stared at each other, stunned, then burst into even louder laughter, hugging again as they rolled across the furs.

Kai felt his chest vibrate with a low laugh he hadn't released in a long time.

But in the middle of the chaos, Vira remained seated at the edge of the circle. Her violet eyes fixed on him, pupils dilated not from the leaves, but from something darker. Her tail moved slow, deliberate. She wasn't laughing.

She only watched.

And in her gaze burned a silent promise: this isn't over.
