Kelvin swallowed quietly after hearing Rita's words. Deep down, he knew she was right. His body had long reached its limit, and the exhaustion creeping through his muscles was no longer something he could ignore completely.
Yet even the thought of stepping away from Sonia long enough to sit somewhere else felt unbearable to him. 'What if she gave up the moment he left her side?'
The thought alone tightened painfully around his chest. And besides, the only chair inside the ICU had already been given to Rita earlier.
"Miss Rita…" he began quietly, intending to refuse once more.
But Rita shook her head firmly before he could continue speaking. "I insist," she said without hesitation. This time, her expression made it painfully obvious that she was not leaving him with another option.
Kelvin stared at her silently for a brief moment before finally giving in.
"Thank you," he murmured softly, his voice nearly inaudible beneath the steady rhythm of the machines surrounding them.
