Yet another vehicle whisked past me. I shut my eyes as the wind from its speed blew dust particles into my face, carrying my hair in its direction.
That was what I'd been doing for the past hour. Lying on the cold tarmac, listening to the crunch of heavy tires as they rolled inches away from my ears.
"GET OFF THE ROAD YOU CRAZY BASTARD!" The driver who just passed yelled at me. That would be the twenty-third time, if I was counting.
I was numb.
I drew in a breath, and my stomach shook with it. The tears in my eyes caused the twinkling dots in the sky to look more like smudges on a dark canvas.
What did I do that was so wrong?

I reluctantly pulled myself off the floor, coming to a sitting position. I was sure a lot of the people who had seen me thought I was crazy, and it was only a matter of time before the police got here after multiple calls about a madman lying in the middle of the highway.
