Heka's eyes turned and locked on the girl at the corner, as bloodlust began to seep through very slowly, but extraordinarily.
The air around her seemed to thicken, the temperature dropping as her anger radiated outward. She was not playing, not teasing, not indulging in her usual masochistic fantasies. She was seriously angry and protective, and that was more terrifying than anything I had ever seen from her.
It was like the entire guild began to vibrate, as if the peak afternoon turned into dark night for a second, and I was certain Heka would rush towards the girl any second.
The force grew heavy, thick with tension that seemed to press down on everyone in the hall.
The ambient noise of the guild—the clinking of cups, the murmur of conversations, the laughter and shouts of adventurers—all of it faded into a dull hum, drowned out by the intensity of Heka's fury.
