Chapter 152 - Chapter 149  -  The Most Terrifying Thing About Him Has Always Been His Mind

Sosuke Aizen's words echoed in the ears of Yamamoto-Taicho… and in the hearts of everyone watching.

Then, in an instant, a pitch-black afterimage flashed across the battlefield.

The towering sea of fire that had seemed ready to burn the entire world to ash disappeared.

Yes - disappeared.

As though it had never existed in the first place.

The spiritual flames wrapped around Yamamoto-Taicho's body and blade, along with the inferno that had swallowed Karakura Town whole, vanished without a trace, as if time itself had reversed and erased everything back to the beginning.

Yamamoto-Taicho slowly raised his eyes, disbelief written plainly across his face.

In Aizen's other hand was the very badge the Espada had used before to steal Bankai.

No… not the same.

The one the Espada had used had been white. This one was clearly different - a custom-made version, entirely black, as though it had been prepared from the start for this exact moment.

"The conditions for stealing a Bankai are twofold," Aizen said with a faint smile. "First, the one taking it must possess sufficient power to control it. I already explained that to you earlier. Among all the Arrancar under my command, not one of them could wield your Bankai. That left only one option."

His voice remained calm, refined, almost gentle.

"I had to do it myself."

He looked at Yamamoto-Taicho as though the battle's conclusion had been decided long before the final strike.

"The second condition is this… the target's Bankai must be something known. In other words, a Bankai that has been personally witnessed and thoroughly analyzed. Something unseen cannot be taken."

His smile deepened by the slightest degree.

"But after fighting you until now, I have completely understood your power."

A cold stillness settled over the battlefield.

"It's over, Yamamoto-Taicho. And now…"

He spoke the last words slowly, one syllable at a time, like a blade descending.

"Farewell."

Yamamoto-Taicho's expression twisted violently.

Without even a moment of hesitation, he swung his sword again.

A flash.

But in that single instant, Aizen's wrist turned - and Yamamoto-Taicho's left arm, the one gripping the blade, was severed cleanly from his body.

Blood sprayed into the air.

Even so, the old man's strike did not slow in the slightest.

A hand meant nothing.

Pain meant nothing.

His life itself meant nothing.

If he could drag the evil before him down into hell with him, that was enough.

That was the kind of man Yamamoto-Taicho had always been.

Even at death's door, he advanced.

Even broken, he cut forward.

Even robbed of his Bankai, he still refused to fall.

But without that overwhelming power, he was no longer Aizen's equal.

When the edge of Ryujin Jakka's blade came within less than half a centimeter of Aizen's forehead, the world seemed to stop breathing.

And then the sword froze in midair.

Because at that very moment, Aizen's blade had already pierced Yamamoto-Taicho's heart.

Silence crashed down over the battlefield.

In his fused Hogyoku form, Aizen pulled Kyoka Suigetsu free with effortless grace and turned elegantly, as though he had merely concluded something inevitable.

"You've grown old, Yamamoto-Taicho."

His voice fell like a judgment passed upon an era.

"Back then, when you founded the original Gotei 13, the word 'protection' was nothing but a hollow name. In truth, it was a band of ruthless killers who slaughtered without blinking. And that was precisely why the world feared you. At that time, you were a true sword demon. To kill an enemy, you would use anything. You cared nothing for outsiders… and even less for the lives of your own subordinates."

He paused, as if admiring the decline of a legend.

"But then came peace. And peace changed you. The things you wished to protect multiplied. Your mercy swelled. And what you once led has now degenerated into a lazy, bloated mass of mediocrity."

His gaze lifted beyond the battlefield, as though he were already looking down on the ruins of the future.

"So watch from the other world. Soul Society is about to be destroyed. This filthy world will be remade… the moment I seize the Soul King Palace."

With his back to Yamamoto-Taicho's corpse, Aizen delivered those words with a chilling, overwhelming poise, as though the world itself existed only to frame his supremacy.

Then he turned to leave.

But in the next second, his expression shifted.

Aizen glanced back - and saw that even though Yamamoto-Taicho was already dead, his remaining right hand was still clutching the hem of Aizen's robe with desperate, unyielding force.

Even in death… he refused to let go.

The moment the audience saw that scene, countless hearts were shaken.

That old man had dedicated his entire life to protecting Soul Society. And in his final moment, even after his heart had been pierced, even after his breathing had stopped, even after death had already claimed him, he was still trying to keep evil from advancing even one step farther.

He died with glory.

No four words could have suited him better.

The reactions exploded across the screen.

[The old man is too damn cool!]

[Even in death he was still trying to stop Aizen. This is just like Kakyoin in JOJO, still trying to crack Dio's Stand even with his last breath.]

[No joke, Alex is insanely good at writing death scenes. Every single time he drags tears out of me, and I'm a grown man pushing forty.]

[Aizen's abilities are way too broken, aren't they? He can evolve infinitely too? How is anyone supposed to beat that?]

[Honestly, Aizen's intelligence is the scariest thing about him. At the start of the fight, he only revealed one of the conditions for stealing a Bankai, tricking Yamamoto-Taicho into thinking his Bankai couldn't be taken. But there were actually two conditions. In the end he used pure intelligence to flip the whole battle. The old man really didn't lose unfairly.]

On the screen, Aizen coldly looked at the dead hand still gripping his clothes.

Then he raised his palm.

"Thunder Roar Cannon."

Boom - !

A pillar of golden light erupted into the heavens, connecting sky and earth in one overwhelming blast. Yamamoto-Taicho's body was completely annihilated, erased so thoroughly that not even ash remained.

"Captain-Commander!!!"

Below, the anguished cries of the Gotei 13 rose one after another, grief and despair tearing through the battlefield.

Aizen watched it all with utter indifference, then spoke in a voice as cold as death itself.

"End it."

The playback froze there and shifted into the ending theme.

"Holy shit!"

"Damn it!"

"Fuck!"

"Jesus Christ!"

Across the world, fans erupted in the finest profanity their native languages had to offer.

Even though the premiere week had already given them two episodes and more than enough excitement to keep them fed, people were greedy by nature. The more they were given, the more they wanted. And at the end of those first two episodes, Alex had once again left behind a massive, agonizing cliffhanger.

Was the Gotei 13 really about to be wiped out?

On the very first day Bleach: Thousand-Year War aired, it shot straight to number one in global streaming viewership.

It had taken the throne outright.

Because most schools were already on summer break, the only thing some fans found frustrating was not being able to head back to class and discuss the story face-to-face with their friends. But compared to the nuclear-level impact of those first two episodes, that was nothing.

Who could have imagined that the final season would open like this?

Just two episodes in, Alex had already thrown the audience a clash between two absolute power ceilings of the series.

And what made it even crazier was that both men had their aura elevated to the absolute limit through that battle.

Yamamoto-Taicho had fully lived up to the title of Strongest Soul Reaper.

Even now, rewatching those two episodes, the moment that charred blade seemed capable of incinerating heaven and earth still sent goosebumps racing across countless viewers' skin.

But even so, Aizen still came out on top.

In terms of sheer visual spectacle and the oppressive grandeur of Bankai, he may indeed have fallen slightly behind Yamamoto-Taicho during the fight.

But the final victor was still him.

And that changed everything.

Because that battle perfectly demonstrated the terrifying brilliance of Aizen's combat intellect.

Whether it was forcing his own evolution by using the power of the strongest Soul Reaper against him, or successfully stealing Yamamoto-Taicho's Bankai at the final moment when everything was decided, every step proved that Aizen's genius wasn't limited to conspiracy and manipulation.

Even in battle, his mind stood above everyone else.

And at the end of the second episode, Alex had left more than enough suspense hanging over the audience.

Without the Captain-Commander's protection, how was the Gotei 13 supposed to survive?

Or rather - how was Soul Society itself supposed to weather the catastrophe ahead?

At this rate, it felt like the Soul Reapers still fighting in the Human World were going to be slaughtered next.

For a time, whether on Penguin, Kiwi, Netflix, or YouTube, the names Sosuke Aizen and Yamamoto-Taicho were everywhere.

One represented the absolute peak of intelligence in battle.

The other represented the absolute peak of raw might.

Together, they dominated every ranking, every discussion, every trending chart.

The platforms that had spent billions securing premiere rights were grinning so hard their faces were practically splitting apart.

They had known it.

Bleach was worth that price.

As for the sites that had only managed to acquire secondary broadcasting rights, their regret was so intense it bordered on physical pain.

But there was nothing they could do.

They simply couldn't afford to pay that much.

At least with the rights they did have, they could still sip a little from the overflow.

On the trending charts, nine of the top ten topics were all tied to Bleach.

"Bleach Final Season Takes Global Streaming Crown on Premiere Day," "The Strongest Bankai Falls to Aizen's Deadly Scheme," "Bleach Final Season Could Earn Alex Tens of Billions," "Is This Really the Final Season? The Franchise's Massive Value May Push Alex Toward Prequels or Side Stories"…

It was, in every sense, oppressive.

A few celebrities who had hoped to steal the headlines were left completely dumbfounded.

They already knew Alex was terrifying.

But this was just bullying.

Inside a comedy production company, one veteran actor's face scrunched so hard with disbelief that even his wrinkles seemed to knot together.

"This is way too insane…"

In truth, he should have been relieved.

A comedy film he had just starred in had originally been aiming for a summer release. But the moment the producers learned Bleach: Thousand-Year War was locking in the same season, they decisively pulled it and moved the release to National Day.

And they were far from the only ones.

As soon as Bleach's schedule was announced, practically every major production shifted release dates.

Some moved to the fall.

Some fled to November.

No one wanted to collide head-on with Bleach.

And so the result became almost surreal.

Summer, normally the golden battlefield of blockbuster cinema, ended up filled with movies whose titles alone sounded like box-office disasters waiting to happen. Their producers had enough self-awareness to know their films weren't going to make much money anyway, so they simply seized the empty window left behind by all the big productions that had run in fear of Bleach.

Maybe, just maybe, they could squeeze out a little extra profit in the chaos.

When Bleach fans saw this, they were delighted.

[Movies making way for a TV series? Hahaha, this is killing me.]

[Alex is ridiculous. You have to understand, there's always been that unwritten rule in the industry that movie stars sit above TV stars. He basically rewrote the rule by himself.]

[Don't miss the point. The crazy one isn't the television industry. It's Alex.]

[Trash movies are still trash movies. It doesn't matter what release window you move them to.]

[Rebeca Verne, come take this beating - who said television can't outclass film?]

[Please leave Rebeca Verne alone. At this point she's basically Alex's number one fangirl.]

[Wait, what the hell happened? Explain.]

[I heard the second half of Death Note is secretly casting right now, and apparently Rebeca Verne has been bringing Alex tea every day on the Bleach set trying to land a role.]

[What the hell?! Alex, don't lose your mind over a pretty face! Rebeca Verne is box-office poison!]

[Don't contaminate my Death Note!]

[I still think an overseas actress would be better - ]

[No way. Don't hand that role to a foreigner. It should go to someone local.]

The arguments spiraled wildly, each side fighting the other with increasing intensity, but none of that really mattered.

Because the very fact that the entire internet had been dragged into that level of frenzy over Bleach, over Alex, over what project might come next, already proved one thing beyond question.

Alex had once again seized the center of the entire conversation.

Completely.

And this time, with only two episodes, he had already made the whole world feel as if a new era had begun.
