Ruby stood frozen, the air in the hallway suddenly feeling thin.
"I like the way you say 'my company,'" Mia drawled, her voice dripping with venomous amusement. "It's funny, really, considering you don't own a damn thing. But that's fine. I'm the new CEO of Byron's Supply subsidiary, Amitex. And Amitex? It's a major shareholder in this very building."
Mia stepped closer, the smell of her expensive, cloying perfume filling the gap between them. "Unlike you, I'm a true Byron. You might have forced me to sign off my personal shares, but I always find a way. Byron Corp is bigger than Max, and the entire family, the real family, supports me."
She leaned in, her eyes gleaming with a triumphant light. "And oh, one more thing. The will was very clear, Max must have a son to inherit the corporation. Since Seron is no longer his legal son, the will condition is not met. Since Max doesn't have an heir, my father is next in line... making this my company."
