Doctor Bentil noticed the hesitation but said nothing. He simply pushed the door open gently. The room was quiet. Too quiet.
The soft beeping of medical machines filled the space while sunlight slipped through the curtains near the window.
One little boy lay asleep on the bed closest to the wall, tiny chest rising and falling peacefully.

The other boy sat curled up on the second bed, rubbing his small eyes with one hand while tears stained his cheeks.
"Mummy…" he sniffed softly. Then the little boy looked up. And Max froze. His heart skipped so hard it almost hurt. The world around him seemed to disappear completely. All he could see was the child sitting on that hospital bed.
The same dark eyes. The same sharp brows. Even the stubborn little expression on his face looked painfully familiar. It was like staring at a smaller version of himself from years ago.
