After dividing the Three Realms, the Tsunayashiro Clan, the head of the Five Great Noble Clans, worried that the Spirit King's power was still too great. These surviving Quincy hid in the Shadow, manipulating spirit particles, constructing spirit particle spaces, and continuously developing and growing, forming a Quincy empire, the "Wandenreich."
Nine hundred years later, Yhwach's heartbeat recovered. After another 90 years, he regained consciousness. After another 9 years, which was when Kurosaki Ichigo was 9 years old, he used the ability of "Auswählen" to forcibly take away the spiritual power of all mixed-blood Quincy in the entire World.
Kurosaki Ichigo's mother lost her Quincy Power because of this, which is why she died at the hands of a Hollow.
