Chapter 81
The Ancestor's eyes narrowed.
"Child… immortality?"
His voice was soft, but it carried across the courtyard like the first rumble of a distant storm. The air grew heavy.
"Those are not easy words."
He rose from his seat. Not quickly the Ancestor did nothing quickly but the weight of his movement pressed down on the courtyard like a mountain shifting.
"If your words are true…" His gaze swept across the elders, lingering on those whose faces still held wonder, those whose hands still trembled. "If even a whisper of this gets out, the whole world will turn on us just to get this."
The Seventh Elder's serpentine eyes flickered. The Sixth Elder's jaw tightened.
The Ancestor continued, his voice growing quieter, which only made it cut deeper.
"The higher one grows in rank, the longer their life span. This is not immortality It is merely an extension of life through overflowing vitality." He paused on Dax. "But this… this could be a turning point."
