Chapter 90
Captain Ever Sword watched Dax's departing figure, his teeth grinding together until his jaw ached.
Bloodthirsty bastards.
Old memories of the clan flooded his thoughts—men drenched in gore, battlefields painted red, the stench of rot that lingered for weeks wherever Godfall swept through. He had been a recruit back then, but he had never forgotten the cold, bottomless dread.
He signaled his men to haul away their unconscious comrades, taking a ragged breath.
"The fact that this clan is breaking isolation… changes everything." Ever Sword tightened his grip on his sheath until his knuckles turned white. "First that cursed blood rain across the plains. Now this."
He threw a single, dark glance back at the ruined inn—at the shattered stone and the strange, cauterized wounds that refused to knit.
"I must inform the city lord immediately."
Inside the tavern's remains, Dax patted Alfonzo's shoulder.
"You did well."
