Chapter 21 Part 2 Runaway Swim and Stolen Kiss
The phrase "visiting home" almost made me laugh, but I swallowed it.
"Miss, are you going to stay like this the whole night?"
"Dad and Uncle Wang agreed three days total. It should end the day after tomorrow. Come find me then."
"Got it, Miss. I'll head back."
The rest blurred into toasts and dishes. The food was good, but I hardly tasted it.
As word of Wang Zheyü's true identity spread, people flocked to toast him networking as hard with him as with the bride and groom. He received them all warmly, but only on the surface. Plenty also brought drinks to the Miss, making her put away quite a bit.
I stayed away, even when I went to the bathroom.
Back on the terrace, watching Linsheng's back as he went inside, I took a few more drags, still in no hurry to rejoin the chaos. My mood had improved, but some of the gloom toward all this "celebration" lingered. Whatever games they were playing now slipping red envelopes to the bride while groping bridesmaids, raffling who would screw the bride on stage, tossing waitresses around I simply couldn't care.
The night breeze brought a rare calm. Looking down, I saw the hotel pool, empty and dark, blue water faintly glowing, the lawn around it bright under the moon.
"Yayi, what are you doing here? Watching something?"
My heart jumped it was the Miss.
She'd come to the terrace too.
She still wore the red scarf, bow at her chest, hints of red peaks and a shadowed triangle below.
Her face was flushed from drink, cheeks pink, eyes slightly misty like the moon veiled behind tree branches.
Her hair was loosely tied; her lips curved in that ambiguous smile whether meant for me or just the alcohol, I couldn't tell.
"Miss, just catching some air. You came to fix your makeup?"
She smiled faintly. "Not at all. I just wanted some air too."
I chuckled. She was clearly tipsy. "Don't you need to keep Uncle Wang company?"
"Can't I leave for a while? I've been fucked enough these last few days, haven't I?" She pouted, pink mouth glistening slightly.
I didn't ask who "they" were. I just savored this rare bit of time alone with her.
"You've had a lot to drink," I said. I could smell it on her breath, feel it in the warmth of her cheek.
"Don't worry. Not enough to knock me out. But at a wedding, you can't avoid toasting every table. Everyone wants to grope me some just reach out and look like they'll come in three seconds. But really, it's all your fault, Yayi."
She laughed, face even redder, eyes bright.
"Come on, the first toast should be for the host. The rest have nothing to do with me." I laughed along.
"What kind of 'host' runs around half naked like this? Anyway, let's stay out here for a while. No rush to go back." She edged closer, shoulder touching mine. "Ooh, there's a pool down there. No one's using it. I want to swim."
"Me too, honestly."
"There won't be anyone at this hour, right?"
"No way. Miss, let's "
The microphone crackled inside: "Dear guests, the games are about to start! Are you excited?"
The brothers roared; bridesmaids giggled; applause washed through the hall.
"First, our bride will begin the tea ceremony…" The MC's voice swallowed the rest.
The Miss glanced back, smiling. "Yayi, let's go in."
She was about to turn when I grabbed her hand.
"What is it?" Her smile didn't fade; if anything, it deepened. She raised her free hand to tuck back a strand of hair.
In the dim balcony light, she was almost painfully beautiful.
So I said what was in my heart. "Miss, don't go back. You don't even like it. Come to the pool with me."
Without giving her time to answer, I pulled her along.
"Hey, Yayi, let me go!"
"No. This is a rare chance to have fun."
Hotels are all built the same; I quickly found the back stairway and tugged her down behind me like a bride eloping.
All the way down, she kept protesting, but followed partly tipsy, partly grateful for an excuse.
The pool gate was locked, but the fence was low.
Before I could say anything, she'd already climbed over. Her scarf snagged briefly on the metal; I caught a flash of her white back as she ran ahead. "Haha, the water's so pretty. I like it!" Then a splash as she dove in.
I flinched, afraid the noise would draw people, but nobody came.
By the time I reached the edge, she was already cutting through the water in long strokes.
Up close, the whole scene became clearer: at night, the pool glowed a deep blue, inviting. The grass around it was lush and cool. I slipped off my shoes to feel it underfoot; the only sounds were insects, the wind, and her moving through the water.
Only water and beauty. She dove, rolled, surfaced, flicked back her wet hair, and waved to me, face bright, beckoning.
"Yayi, get in here!"
I had no trunks but so what?
I stripped and dove.
The water's chill stole my breath. As I resurfaced, water streamed from my ears and I heard her laughter. A pale shape swept toward me; I swam toward her and caught her in my arms.
"Let's race."
"Sure. You think I'm afraid of you?"
From upstairs, anyone glancing down could see two naked bodies playing in the water sometimes racing, sometimes splashing each other like children.
For a moment, everything else vanished. The droplets sparkled under the hotel lights, golden and dazzling, at once sacred and obscene.
Best of all, no one came to interrupt. They probably took us for just another pair of guests.
Everything flowed naturally. The second time I caught her in my arms in the water, we surfaced together.
Her hair, brow, lashes, nose all beaded with droplets, lines of water running down over her face, along her throat, into the hollow of her collarbone, then over her chest and back into the pool.
Just like that first night in the garden.
"What are you staring at? Haven't you seen enough?" she teased, eyes flickering with that familiar flame.
Yet for once, I didn't feel lust. Instead…
"Ah! Yayi, what "
She never finished, because I pressed my lips to hers.
Her body stiffened, but I held her firmly, not letting her pull away. After a moment, she relaxed. Her lashes dipped; I saw her eyes slowly close.
Her muffled whimpers grew deeper as my tongue parted her teeth, slid into the heat of her mouth, twining with hers. We shared breath; we shared life.
Her body softened and melted against me.
A bit of water ran between our lips into my mouth salty not sweat.
"Yayi! What are you doing?" At last, Lin Jiabi broke free and slapped me hard across the face.
"You're insane! Too much," she shouted, stormed out of the pool, and grabbed a towel to cover herself.
"Miss, I… I'm sorry. I lost control." I knew what had just happened; even as she slapped me, her eyes had lacked real anger. Afterwards, I'd glimpsed a flash of softness, something like regret.
But she had to keep her dignity. She sat at the edge of the pool, towel‑drying her hair, refusing to look at me, biting her lip.
