Nobody spoke for a while after that. Honestly, I don't think either of us could. Because suddenly, everything became painfully real in a way it never had before. This single moment made it all real, and looking at that tiny shape on the screen, a fierce wave of protectiveness rushed over me.

Rhys slowly lowered his head, pressing a lingering, careful kiss against my forehead while his fingers trembled slightly against mine.
I turned my face away quickly, swallowing hard against the sudden, painful burn in my eyes, but the tears leaked out anyway, streaming down my face before I could stop them.
"I love you so much, baby," Rhys muttered thickly, kissing my forehead again as if trying to ground both of us.
