Chapter 86 - Not So Humble

"The Philosopher's Stone belongs to my good friend Nicolas Flamel. He'd previously received news that Voldemort might be thinking about it, so he asked me to protect it.

For this, I brought the Philosopher's Stone to the school and placed it in the Mirror of Erised."

Dumbledore had to explain to Adrian the origin of the Philosopher's Stone, in case he kept insisting on asking for it.

At the same time, Dumbledore also explained the destruction of the Philosopher's Stone with Nicolas Flamel's consent, in order to stop Adrian's unrealistic ideas.

Even though he'd known the result for a long time, Adrian still felt a bit disappointed.

When he was reading in his previous life, he hadn't thought the Philosopher's Stone was so impressive. Now that he truly faced it, Adrian knew how much temptation endless wealth and endless life held for a person.

This was the ultimate dream of most people!

Dumbledore saw the disappointment in Adrian's eyes, so he had to remind him.

"It may be difficult for a young wizard like you to understand, but there are many things in the world more precious than wealth and longevity. For example, the courage to risk danger for a friend, or the wisdom shown in times of crisis, these things are real treasures.

In contrast, the power of the Philosopher's Stone, while powerful, is not unlimited. Just like we can't create things out of thin air."

Dumbledore's blue eyes under his half-moon glasses stared straight at Adrian. He'd seen many rare qualities from Adrian's recent actions.

He'd seen too many talented wizards obsessed with power, wealth, and immortality, such as Grindelwald, Tom Riddle...

Even... when he was young, he'd been no exception.

Had it not been for Ariana's death to wake him up in time, the wizarding world might have been at war with the Muggles under the joint control of him and Grindelwald.

Adrian nodded slightly. Although he didn't pursue immortality and strength like Voldemort, he wouldn't dismiss these things like Dumbledore either.

Even if the Philosopher's Stone had any limitations or side effects, it couldn't be denied. After all, Nicolas Flamel had lived more than 600 years!

Fortunately, he'd now obtained the method of making the Philosopher's Stone. Perhaps many years later, as his alchemy level increased, he could have his own Philosopher's Stone.

Because of this, Adrian quickly cleared up his emotions. This was also seen by Dumbledore, which made him very satisfied, so he planned to say something pleasant.

"You and Harry defeated Quirrell in the secret chamber. I don't know who spread the word, but I'm afraid this incident will be known throughout the school in a few days.

And your actions have also allowed Gryffindor to earn the highest house score in the history of the school, nearly double the second place, Slytherin! It's a pity you were unconscious at the time and weren't there. Otherwise you could have seen how surprised the young wizards were..."

Adrian rolled his eyes.

'Besides bonus points, can you give something more practical? And who else could have spread the news other than you?'

Adrian was well aware of Dumbledore's habit of granting Harry prestige. He could add dozens or hundreds of points without blinking, and this time he'd just brought Adrian along with him.

"Well, when we're happy, we should talk about something else." Dumbledore changed the subject with a smile.

"You know, two days ago, Miss Granger and Mr. Weasley suddenly ran up to me out of breath and asked me to go under the trapdoor to rescue you and Harry. I was almost worried sick.

Fortunately, after I arrived, you were quite safe and had defeated Voldemort who possessed Quirrell..."

"That's Harry's credit, Professor! After he touched Voldemort, his body collapsed." Adrian didn't try to take credit and tried to reduce his presence as much as possible.

"Of course, I know. That's the protective magic in Harry's body, the power of love!" Dumbledore nodded. Of course he knew what had happened after seeing the scene, but that wasn't what he wanted to ask about.

"But I'm even more curious about how you alone held Voldemort off for so long. I learned some information from Harry, but it's not thorough enough," Dumbledore said.

Although Voldemort had been so weak that only his soul remained, and he was manipulating a broken body, it definitely wasn't something a first-year wizard could fight against.

In addition, he was also very interested in the changes that had suddenly happened to Adrian two days ago.

Adrian wanted to ask Dumbledore what exactly Harry had told him, and think about how to explain things.

But it seemed Adrian knew Dumbledore, the old fox, definitely wouldn't tell him. He could only confess part of the information.

Adrian sighed, figured out what he could say, then organized his thoughts.

"Professor, have you ever experienced the feeling of being able to cast all kinds of spells without a wand and without speaking, as if the magic power itself had a domain?"

"Do you mean this?" Dumbledore thought for a while and placed his empty left hand lightly on top of a white porcelain cup.

Without any visible movement from him, the cup suddenly twisted and stretched. A few seconds later, an owl with white feathers appeared before Adrian's eyes.

The eyes of this owl were very alert. After discovering it had suddenly appeared in a strange place, it tried to fly out of the school hospital in panic, but hit the glass with its head and fell straight to the ground, shaking its wings from time to time.

Adrian was speechless. He could see this probably wasn't an ordinary Transfiguration spell. Otherwise, when the owl hit the glass, it would have turned back into a cup and shattered into pieces.

Dumbledore's technique was slightly different from the situation when Adrian cast transformation spells at a distance during his magic bursts, but the principle was the same.

Without wielding a wand or chanting a spell, he could complete a high-level biological transformation using only magic power.

Adrian had actually wondered if he could challenge Dumbledore in such a magical state, but he hadn't expected the other party could also do it. Now thinking about it, that had been too arrogant.

"These are just small tricks. They don't have much effect in actual combat." Dumbledore explained Adrian's surprised expression lightly.

'This is also called a trick?'

Adrian hadn't expected that Professor Dumbledore usually looked humble and reserved, but had a heart that desperately wanted to show off.

Actually, Adrian didn't know that Dumbledore hadn't lied to him.

This feeling of relying on magic power to cast spells as you wanted was very satisfying, but the power of the magic was far less than when holding a wand.

Especially... when what he held in his hand was a Deathly Hallow, the Elder Wand!
