Dust still swirled over the valley.
The battle had not stopped, but its rhythm had changed. Before, it was chaos wolves against wolves, claws against steel, howls filling the air.
Now there was a pattern.
Something unseen began to guide the flow of the battle.
And its center was Aurelia.
Golden light spread across the ground, pulsing steadily like a giant heart that had just woken from a long sleep.
Every pulse was felt.
Darius felt it in his bones.
Lucien felt it in his breath.
Cassian felt it even in the shadows where he moved.
Alaric felt it at the tip of his sword.
And the other wolves.
They felt it as courage.
Kael Draven felt it too.
He stood in the middle of the battlefield, his body covered in wounds from clashing with the four Alphas. Blood flowed from his shoulder, his ribs, from the long gash left by Lucien's sword.
Yet his eyes still burned red.
He stared at Aurelia like a hunter who had finally found his legendary prey.
"Interesting," he said softly.
His voice was loud enough to be heard above the clashing of swords and claws.
"You really are different from the others."
Aurelia stood calm and steady.
Wind blew through her hair, and the golden light from the ground made her silhouette look like gentle flames wrapped around her body.
"And you're still the same," she replied.
Kael raised an eyebrow.
"The Luna killer?"
Aurelia looked straight at him.
"Someone who fears change."
Several wolves around them stopped fighting just to listen.
Kael laughed softly.
"Fear?"
He gestured at the battlefield.
"Look around you."
Fallen bodies lay scattered.
The ground was cracked.
Blood seeped into the earth.
"Change always comes at a price."
Lucien stepped forward, his sword raised.
"Enough."
Kael rolled his shoulder, and his red aura began to flow again.
"Yes," he said.
"Enough talk."
He moved once more.
Kael's attack this time was different.
Not as fast as before.
Not as brutal as before.
But more… precise.
He struck with clear purpose.
Aurelia.
Lucien intercepted him first.
Their swords met with a sharp clang.
Kael pushed forward with almost inhuman strength.
Lucien was forced back a step.
Darius moved in immediately from the right.
His claws swept like giant scythes.
Kael ducked.
The attack only tore away a lock of his silver hair.
He spun his body and kicked Darius in the chest.
The impact sounded like stone hitting a wall.
Darius staggered back three steps.
"Fucking strong," he muttered.
Cassian appeared behind Kael.
His dagger aimed for Kael's neck.
Kael was already waiting.
He swung his elbow.
Cassian blocked just in time, but still was thrown sideways.
Alaric came last.
His sword slashed straight at Kael's chest.
Kael blocked with his claws.
The two forces collided, sending sparks of energy into the air.
For a few seconds.
They were locked in combat.
Four Alphas against one.
Yet Kael did not look overwhelmed.
Instead, he smiled.
"This is fun."
Then he released a wave of aura.
A burst of red energy forced all four Alphas back.
Kael leaped backward too, keeping his distance.
He studied them.
Counting.
Analyzing.
Lucien realized it.
"He's learning."
Cassian smirked slightly.
"Of course."
"He's not a mindless monster."
Kael looked at all of them.
"You think I came without a plan?"
He pointed at Aurelia again.
"If I kill her, this war ends."
Darius scoffed.
"If."
Kael smiled.
"Yes."
"If."
Aurelia felt everything.
The movement.
The auras.
The intent.
The resonance within her grew stronger.
She did not only feel the Alphas.
She felt every wolf.
An Ironclaw warrior nearly collapsing from exhaustion.
Two North Ridge wolves protecting each other.
Even some Frostfangs who had begun to hesitate in battle.
Their feelings flowed through the ground.
And through her.
She took a deep breath.
Then raised her hand.
The golden light spread wider.
Kael felt it instantly.
His eyes narrowed.
"You're expanding your domain again."
Aurelia replied calmly.
"I'm protecting them."
"By binding them to you."
Aurelia shook her head slightly.
"No."
"By reminding them who they are."
Kael let out a small laugh.
"Wolves don't need reminders."
"They need leaders."
"And you think that's you?"
Kael did not answer.
But his red aura flared up again.
Lucien felt the pressure.
"He'll attack again."
Darius growled.
"Good."
But before Kael could move.
Something happened.
A long howl rang out from the edge of the valley.
Every head turned.
A group of wolves from the Frostfang pack stood at the front line of battle.
Their leader an Alpha with white hair and a long scar across his face stared at the battlefield.
He looked at Kael.
Then at Aurelia.
The golden light on the ground pulsed beneath his feet.
He closed his eyes for a moment.
As if feeling something.
Then.
He turned to his troops.
"Stop."
The Frostfang wolves ceased fighting.
Kael realized it immediately.
His face hardened.
"Torvald."
The Frostfang Alpha stepped forward.
"I came to see if the rumors were true."
He looked at Aurelia.
"It seems they are."
Kael spoke coldly,
"If you withdraw now, I will consider this treason."
Torvald did not answer right away.
He looked at the battlefield again.
Wolves protecting each other.
Golden energy flowing through the earth.
Four Alphas standing before one Luna.
He sighed.
"The world has changed, Kael."
Kael stared sharply at him.
"No."
"Not yet."
Torvald shook his head.
"It already has."
He turned back to his troops.
"Frostfang withdraws from this battle."
Silence swept through the valley.
Kael did not move for several seconds.
Then he laughed.
Softly.
Dangerously.
"Good."
He raised his claws again.
"Then I'll kill all of you myself."
Aurelia stepped forward.
The golden light shone brighter than before.
The four Alphas stood beside her.
And behind them.
Hundreds of wolves who now stood together.
Kael Draven finally realized one thing.
This battle was no longer about killing one Luna.
It was about stopping a new world that had begun to be born.
And the storm…
Had only just started.
