The morning breeze blew gently through the valley still filled with the aftermath of battle. Broken grass, cracked stones, and soil blackened by last night's energy were now bathed in sunlight as the sun slowly rose in the sky.
Yet even though the war had ended, not all shadows had truly disappeared.
Several hours had passed since the Alphas agreed to form the Pack Council.
Most packs had already begun returning to their territories, carrying the wounded and burying the fallen. The valley that had echoed with war cries last night had now become a place slowly returning to peace.
But amidst that tranquility, a strange feeling still hung in the air.
As if the new world that had just been born was not yet fully stable.
Aurelia stood at the edge of a cliff overlooking the valley.
From there she could see almost the entire battlefield from the night before.
The wolves still moved here and there, but their numbers had dwindled significantly.
The morning sky was pale.
The wind carried the scent of damp earth and pine needles from the surrounding forest.
Footsteps sounded behind her.
Without turning around, Aurelia already knew who was coming.
"If you want to be alone, I can leave."
Lucien's voice was calm as usual.
Aurelia smiled faintly.
"You never really leave."
Lucien stopped beside her, gazing at the same valley.
For a few seconds they just stood in silence.
Then Lucien spoke,
"The Pack Council is finished."
Aurelia nodded slowly.
"And?"
"Most of the Alphas accepted the agreement."
Lucien shrugged slightly.
"Some are still hesitant."
Cassian suddenly emerged from behind a large boulder a few meters behind them.
"And some secretly hope everything fails."
Darius also approached, still wearing a bandage on his arm.
"Let them hope."
He stretched his shoulder slowly.
"If they try to start another war, we'll stop them."
Alaric arrived last.
As usual, he did not speak much.
But his eyes immediately focused on Aurelia.
"Kael is awake."
Those words made everyone turn around.
Aurelia let out a slow breath.
"Where is he?"
"In the guard tent."
Darius grinned.
"Still alive. Unfortunately."
Cassian raised an eyebrow.
"I didn't think you'd actually let him live."
Aurelia looked back toward the valley.
"If I had killed him last night, he would have become a legend."
Lucien nodded slightly.
"A dead enemy often becomes a symbol."
Aurelia continued,
"But a living enemy must face a changed world."
Darius shrugged.
"In that case, let's see how he faces his new world."
The guard tent stood on the side of the valley, somewhat far from where the wolves had gathered.
Two Ironclaw warriors stood at the entrance.
As Aurelia and the four Alphas approached, the guards immediately stepped aside.
Inside the tent, the air felt cooler.
Kael Draven sat leaning against a wooden pole in the middle of the room.
His body was still covered in bandages.
But his eyes were already open.
Those dark red eyes immediately fixed on them as they entered.
For a few seconds no one spoke.
Then Kael laughed softly.
"Four Alphas… and a Luna who refused to kill her enemy."
He shook his head slowly.
"A sight I never thought I'd see."
Darius immediately scoffed.
"If you want me to change that decision, I'll gladly do it."
Cassian grinned.
"Me too."
Lucien remained standing calmly.
Alaric only watched.
But Aurelia stepped forward.
She stopped a few steps away from Kael.
"You lost."
Kael nodded.
"Yes."
He looked at his own hands, still wrapped in bandages.
"My body seems to agree too."
Silence filled the tent again for a few seconds.
Then Kael said,
"I heard you formed a Pack Council."
Darius raised an eyebrow.
"News travels fast."
Kael smiled faintly.
"Wolves always like to gossip."
He looked at Aurelia again.
"So… you really want to change the world."
Aurelia did not deny it.
Kael lowered his head for a moment.
Then he spoke softly,
"Do you know what will happen if your plan fails?"
Cassian answered first.
"War again."
Kael nodded.
"Not just war."
He looked at them one by one.
"Division."
Lucien crossed his arms over his chest.
"Our world is already full of divisions."
Kael smiled faintly.
"True."
He looked at Aurelia.
"But you have now become the center of it all."
He pointed outside the tent.
"All packs see you as a symbol of change."
His eyes narrowed slightly.
"And symbols always attract enemies."
Silence fell again.
This time it was heavier.
Aurelia stared straight at him.
"Is that a threat?"
Kael shook his head slowly.
"No."
He leaned back more comfortably.
"It's a warning."
Darius scoffed impatiently.
"We've already faced the worst."
Kael chuckled lightly.
"You think I'm the worst?"
He raised an eyebrow.
"I'm just an Alpha who believed in the old laws."
He looked toward the tent entrance, toward the outside world.
"But out there… there are forces that even packs never dared to speak of."
Alaric finally spoke.
"Who?"
Kael smiled faintly.
"The Shadow Kings."
That name immediately changed the atmosphere inside the tent.
Cassian frowned.
"An old legend."
Kael shook his head.
"Not a legend."
He looked at Aurelia once more.
"And if they hear that the wolves are starting to unite…"
His smile slowly faded.
"…they won't let it happen."
The wind suddenly blew through the open tent entrance.
Outside, the morning sun was higher in the sky.
But for the first time since the war ended.
Aurelia felt a new shadow beginning to move behind the world they had just built.
And deep in her heart, she knew one thing.
Their war might be over.
But the greater battle… had only just begun.
Silence fell inside the tent.
Not a peaceful silence.
But a silence full of tension.
The name Kael had just spoken felt like a stone dropped into still water its ripples immediately felt on the faces of everyone in the room.
Even Cassian, who was usually relaxed, stopped twirling his ring.
"The Shadow Kings?" he repeated softly.
Darius scoffed impatiently.
"An old legend used by pack elders to scare young wolves."
But Alaric did not laugh.
His eyes narrowed.
"Not all legends are born from lies."
Lucien looked at Kael seriously.
"Have you ever met them?"
Kael did not answer immediately.
He let out a slow breath, then looked at the sky visible through the gap in the tent cloth.
"I've never met them directly."
Cassian raised an eyebrow.
"Then how do you know they're real?"
Kael smiled faintly.
"Because I've seen what they leave behind."
The room fell silent again.
Aurelia watched Kael's expression carefully.
She knew the man was not the type to scare people without reason.
"What do you mean?" Aurelia finally asked.
Kael looked at her.
This time his gaze was not as mocking as before.
More like someone remembering something they did not want to remember.
"Several years ago," he said slowly, "I found a pack to the north."
Darius crossed his arms.
"And?"
Kael continued in a lower voice.
"No one was alive."
Cassian grinned faintly.
"Things like that happen often in pack wars."
Kael shook his head.
"Not like this."
He looked at them one by one.
"No battle wounds."
"No traces of other wolves."
"No signs of resistance."
Lucien frowned.
"Then?"
Kael spoke softly,
"They were all dead… as if something had pulled their lives away all at once."
The wind outside suddenly shook the tent cloth.
The sound of fabric rubbing felt louder than usual.
Darius finally spoke,
"And you're linking this to the Shadow Kings?"
Kael nodded slightly.
"I found their symbol."
Cassian tilted his head.
"A symbol?"
Kael drew something on the ground with his finger.
A circle.
In the center were sharp lines like claws.
Alaric recognized it immediately.
"The symbol of the ancient rulers."
Lucien looked at him.
"Do you know that?"
Alaric nodded.
"Old records in the North Ridge archives."
He looked at the symbol.
"An organization that even the Alphas of old were afraid to name."
Darius frowned.
"Why?"
Alaric answered briefly.
"Because they do not submit to any pack."
Cassian leaned against a tent pole.
"So we have a new mysterious enemy."
He grinned wryly.
"Sounds interesting."
Aurelia did not join in the joke.
She looked at the symbol on the ground.
Something inside her felt uneasy.
"If they exist," she said softly, "why haven't they appeared until now?"
Kael looked at her for a long time.
"Because packs have always fought among themselves."
He pointed outside the tent.
"A divided wolf is never a threat to anyone."
Lucien immediately understood what he meant.
"But now we are united."
Kael nodded.
"And that… will get their attention."
Silence fell again.
This time it was heavier.
Darius finally let out a rough breath.
"Good."
He stood straight.
"If they come, we'll just destroy them."
Cassian chuckled lightly.
"You always have simple solutions."
Darius grinned.
"They usually work."
Lucien turned to Aurelia.
"We can't ignore this."
Aurelia nodded.
"I know."
She looked at Kael again.
"Why are you telling us this?"
Kael smiled faintly.
"Because the world you're building is interesting."
He shrugged.
"I want to see if it can actually survive."
Cassian scoffed.
"And if it doesn't?"
Kael replied casually,
"At least I'll watch it fall."
Darius almost hit him, but Lucien raised his hand to stop him.
"Enough."
He looked at Kael coldly.
"You remain a prisoner."
Kael nodded casually.
"I have no intention of running."
He leaned back again.
"My body isn't even strong enough to stand."
Aurelia turned toward the tent entrance.
But before she left, Kael said,
"One more thing."
Aurelia stopped.
Kael stared at her sharply.
"If the Shadow Kings really start moving…"
He smiled faintly.
"…you're not just the leader of the packs."
He pointed at Aurelia.
"You'll be their first target."
The morning breeze blew again as Aurelia stepped out of the tent.
The sky was now fully bright.
But Kael's words still echoed in her mind.
Lucien walked beside her.
"Do you think he's telling the truth?"
Aurelia looked at the valley, which was slowly emptying.
"I don't know."
Darius emerged from the tent while stretching his shoulder.
"Legend or not, I don't care."
Cassian grinned.
"Yeah. If they come, we'll welcome them."
Alaric looked at the distant forest.
But his expression was more serious than usual.
"An unseen enemy is often the most dangerous."
Aurelia followed his gaze.
The vast forest spread out under the sunlight.
Calm.
Peaceful.
But far behind the trees swaying in the wind…
somehow it felt like something was watching them.
Aurelia realized that the new world she had built might already have attracted the attention of forces far older… and far darker.
