Later that morning, my father summoned me again.
The ancestral hall felt heavier this time. Several senior elders were present, along with maps of the northern territories spread across the obsidian table. My father's expression was grave.
"The Azure Phoenix Clan has grown bolder," he said without preamble. "They've sent envoys demanding compensation for alleged border violations during the Valthor incident. We both know it's a pretext. They want to test our strength after the recent… events."
He looked directly at me.
"You will lead the diplomatic delegation. Take your inner circle. Show them that House Targaryen is stronger than ever. But be cautious. Their young mistress, Feng Lan, is said to be exceptionally talented. And ruthless."
I studied the maps. "When do we leave?"
"Ten days. Prepare thoroughly."
As the meeting ended, one of the elders lingered. Elder Cai, an old traditionalist, spoke in a low voice once the others had left.
