Chapter 16 - Chapter 15 — EQUANIMITY

The Voice of Creation whispered—

"Balance is easiest before heat tests it."

Change did not arrive with noise.

It slipped in quietly—like a habit forming, not a storm breaking.

Vaibhav was trying to rise again—not through force or rebellion, but through balance.

Shlokh carried unease like a responsibility he could not abandon.

Shourya laughed his way through days, letting brilliance roam without discipline.

Three minds.

One season turning.

And equanimity had yet to be earned.

Scene 1 — P.T.M

"So… the day has finally come," Vaibhav muttered under his breath.

From behind him, his mother called, "Beta, are you ready?"

"Yeah," he replied. "Almost done."

At 9:23, they reached the school entrance.

Class 11-A1. Room 12.

Vaibhav stood outside the classroom for a moment longer than necessary. He inhaled slowly.

"Ma'am, may I come in?"

"Yes," the teacher replied.

Vaibhav entered, greeted her respectfully, and touched her feet.

"Ji, Mrs. Teena," Goldie Ma'am said warmly. "Please, have a seat."

She opened the report.

"There's been an increase in effort this time," she said calmly.

Vaibhav stiffened.

"Overall percentage—sixty-eight."

His mother frowned slightly. "These don't seem very good."

Goldie Ma'am smiled gently.

"After tenth grade, eleventh is a big jump. A dip like this is completely normal."

His mother nodded, satisfied.

Vaibhav nodded too—but somewhere inside, a quiet calculation began.

Outside, he spotted Shlokh with his mother, deep in serious conversation. When they crossed paths, Vaibhav spoke quietly.

"Bro, sixty-eight. All subjects fine—except Physics."

Shlokh nodded once. "You will improve."

As they walked out, Vaibhav exhaled deeply.

"Escaped early," he said. "Thank God."

Scene 2 — Base Cooking

Later that afternoon, Shlokh called Shourya.

"So, how much did you score?" Shourya asked casually.

"Seventy-eight."

A pause.

"Bro… that's it," Shourya said dramatically. "This friendship is officially unfair."

Then, proudly, "I got ninety-two. Without trying."

The call cut.

Shlokh stared at his screen.

Veere said something would happen in summer…

Maybe I can help before that.

He dialed Vaibhav.

"Let's go to the gaming zone at five. Call Shourya too."

By evening, they met.

Vaibhav looked calmer than usual—neat, composed, almost aesthetic.

Shourya arrived careless as ever.

Shlokh was… Shlokh.

Games passed. Laughter followed. Time slipped.

When they stepped outside, hunger hit instantly.

Inside the restaurant, the smell of fried food wrapped around them—warm oil, spice, and salt mixing with the low hum of voices. It felt comforting. Familiar. Grounding.

Junk food arrived. Noise followed. Plates emptied.

For a moment, they were just boys again—no stones, no visions, no watchers.

And perhaps that was the most dangerous calm of all.

By the time they parted ways, the city lights had come alive.

Vaibhav smiled to himself.

Good thing I told Mom I'd eat outside today.

The happiness lingered.

But somewhere deep inside, the memory of the stone—and its mystery—refused to fade.

Scene 3 — Imbalance

Far from the city—

Veere stood still.

"Balance never survives its first real test," he said quietly.

Behind him, the masked man hesitated.

"Will those children be ready?"

Veere didn't turn.

"One can only hope."

Elsewhere—

A place without walls.

Without light.

A shadow shifted.

Within it, thin points of light burned softly—observing, waiting, measuring.

A voice emerged. Calm. Controlled. Commanding.

"Veere…"

The name alone carried weight.

And the chapter closed.
