Chapter 56 - Chapter 56: Micro-Surgery

Yu Hyuga's breakfast consisted of fried fish paired with shiso soup.

The camp regulations dictated that fires could only be lit twice a day—once for breakfast and once for dinner. It was predictable that for the foreseeable future, every meal would revolve around fish. This was roughly the same standard of living as the Land of Rain battlefield, where the menu typically consisted of two plates of wild greens and a rice ball.

The reason was the same: logistical difficulties.

Trams and railways were inventions that wouldn't appear for nearly forty years. Currently, the universal method of transport on the battlefield still relied on oxen, horses, and ninjas.

In a certain sense, there was no difference between the two.

After collecting his tray, Yu went to a corner of the camp and sat beneath a coconut tree.

Every so often, the medical ninjas in the camp would cast strange looks his way. Some seemed like they wanted to approach him, but then they remembered that Furofuki had just transferred Yu to the Body Disposal Squad. After hesitating for a moment, they chose to give up on the idea.

Yu took all of this in, his expression remains unchanged. He simply raised his tray in silence and swallowed his food alone.

But just then, a green figure slunk over surreptitiously. One look at that iconic bowl cut and those thick eyebrows was enough to know it was Might Duy.

At this moment, Duy sat down gingerly, his tone laced with caution as he whispered to Yu, "Yu, I've discovered a major piece of intelligence."

Hearing this, Yu looked up at him, knitting his brows. "What did you find?"

"There is a spy in the camp!"

"Whew..." Yu breathed a sigh of relief. He had thought the Seven Ninja Swordsmen were attacking right now.

A spy in the camp? Wasn't that the most normal thing in the world?

Seeing Yu's indifferent expression, Might Duy's face grew a few degrees more serious.

"It's like this, listen to me. When I went to train in the early hours of the morning, I discovered that Doctor Yumiko..."

"She actually used the Seduction Jutsu on me!"

Hearing this, Yu's expression finally turned grave. He said in a vibrating voice, "What!? Quick, tell me everything!"

Soon, Might Duy told Yu everything he had seen and heard.

Might Duy only looked simple-minded and inflexible, but in reality, he wasn't stupid at all. Yumiko's panic when she first bumped into him might have been an accident, but when he intentionally circled back, she was still nervous upon seeing him a second time. She even went as far as to play nice and try to sell her charms.

That meant there was likely a problem.

However, Yumiko was a relatively high-ranking medical ninja in the camp; she could even stand on the operating table as Furofuki's primary assistant. Translated to the Konoha Hospital, she would be, at the very least, an attending or resident physician.

And what about Might Duy? He was nothing more than an "Eternal Genin" who had been transferred to the camp to do odd jobs by mistake. His words carried no weight.

Duy knew that even if he reported this to the camp's high command, it wouldn't be taken seriously and might even invite ridicule. But he couldn't just sit idly by, so he sought out his student, Yu Hyuga.

"Yu, you're a member of the Hyuga Clan. Your words carry more weight than mine. We can't let this spy continue to hide and cause serious damage to Konoha!"

"Hmm, that makes sense," Yu nodded solemnly.

Then he said to Might Duy, "However, Master Duy, as you can see, things aren't going so well for me in the camp either. I was transferred to the Body Disposal Squad as soon as I arrived."

"Hmm... that's also true."

Might Duy thought about it and realized that was indeed the case. He turned to comfort his student instead.

"Yu, don't be discouraged! As long as you keep working hard, with your abilities, you will definitely be valued by the Medical Corps again!"

Yu nodded and offered a suggestion with a smile.

"Master Duy, how about this... you continue to keep an eye on that female spy, and I will support you from the shadows. As long as we catch her in the act, she won't be able to talk her way out of it!"

"That makes sense!"

Might Duy's spirit was bolstered. He didn't even finish his meal; he hurried toward the other side of the camp to actively approach the female spy.

Yu shook his head and immediately put the matter out of his mind.

It wasn't that he was unwilling to help Might Duy, nor was it as he had claimed—that he was truly disliked in the camp.

Given Yu's current unique situation, if he wanted to, he could meet with Hizashi Hyuga—one of the highest authorities on the Eastern Front—at any time and receive the full assistance of the Hyuga Branch House.

Furthermore, the head of the medical camp, Furofuki, was the teacher who was both harshest toward him and cared for him the most.

The deputy head was his direct superior in Root, Tanuki Shigaraki.

In this small patch of land, Yu's network of connections could be described as "reaching the heavens." He didn't even need to lift a finger; he only needed to say a word, and Yumiko would vanish from the earth by the next day.

However, it was like running a program: as long as the code can run, try not to touch it.

If he followed the trail, what if he actually found something?

Yu would never believe that a place like the Medical Corps, which was vital to the lives of ninjas, wasn't being watched by anyone.

Besides, if even Might Duy could notice something was wrong, it showed just how incompetent this spy really was...

Soon, having finished his meal, Yu returned to the Body Disposal Squad's tent.

In the four hours before breakfast, Furofuki had already taught Yu the principles, surgical details, and precautions of the Healing Resuscitation Regeneration Technique.

Having already copied nearly half of the technique himself, combined with Furofuki's high-level guidance and a tent full of "living materials," Yu was soon able to get started and attempt his first practice.

The principle of the Healing Resuscitation Regeneration Technique was very simple.

It was similar to the coronary artery bypass surgery Yu had previously performed. Both involved taking a patient's existing healthy cells, cultivating, replicating, and proliferating them within the patient's body, and then transplanting them to heal the wound.

The difficulty lay in the high-intensity, long-duration nature of the surgery, the drain on mental energy and chakra, as well as the long process of culturing cells, locating the lesion, excising it, and transplanting healthy cells to heal it.

For Yu, who possessed the Byakugan, finding the location of the lesion was extremely simple. All that remained was to use chakra to stimulate cell growth and perform the transplant within the patient's body.

At this moment, the subject he was attempting to practice on and heal was a Chunin sent back from the Land of Whirlpools. This man had been stabbed through the kidneys twice, resulting in bilateral renal necrosis. Additionally, he had active malignant tumors in his body and partial cirrhosis of the liver...

It was a miracle the man had survived this long.

Yu wasn't confident he could save him.

But...

No matter what, attempting this level of micro-surgery within the subject's body beforehand would allow Yu to accumulate considerable experience for developing his Byakugan: Gale Style Chakra Mode.

Soon...

"Surgery beginning."

After observing the patient's condition, Yu's gaze hardened. In that instant, his entire aura transformed into that of a cold, decisive surgeon.

His hands, clad in white medical gloves, descended!

With a speed that surpassed imagination, he first used chakra to block the spread of barbiturate-based euthanasia drugs through the patient's central nervous system, pulling him back from the brink of death.

"Sss—!"

The Chunin abruptly woke from his anesthesia. His eyes bulged, and he began to howl frantically.

"Aaaaaahhh!!! It hurts! It hurts so much!"

"No, don't save me! Let me die! Just let me die! I beg of you!"

Yu remained expressionless as he proceeded to the next step. He reached in and directly began a nephrectomy. He made a 15-centimeter incision below the twelfth rib, then used the Delicate Illness Extraction Technique to strip it away...

"AAAAAAHHH!!!"

The horrific screams soon attracted the attention of the Root ninjas lurking in the shadows of the camp.

They merely spared a glance before quickly returning to their positions, expressionlessly continuing their guard duty.

As the surgery progressed...

At some point, the head of the Medical Corps, Furofuki, and the deputy head, Tanuki Shigaraki, arrived at the tent together. After observing from the side for a moment, both watched the ongoing surgery with grave expressions.

Before long, the two looked at each other, a trace of disbelief flashing in their eyes.

Furofuki: "Wait, this is only his first time practicing, right? He can actually use the Healing Resuscitation Regeneration Technique to strip injected sedatives from the central nervous system on his first try?"

Tanuki Shigaraki: "This kid... can actually perform surgical micro-manipulation at the cellular level?!"
