Chapter 63: The East Slums, Silent Streets, and the Waiting Ghost
As they ate and talked, several townsfolk noticed Sister Mary standing near the tavern entrance.
They approached her with quiet respect, heads bowed.
An elderly woman stepped forward, her voice soft and trembling.
"Sister Mary… thank you. Your prayers and gentle care helped my son through his fever. We would have lost him without you."
A young father nodded earnestly, his young daughter peeking out from behind his leg.
"You have helped so many in this town. We do not forget kindness like yours."
Sister Mary smiled gently, her voice warm and sincere.
"I only do what is right and good. But… if any of you know where the Ghost might be hiding… please tell me. I mean him no harm. I only wish to speak with him. There are things that I must ask him, things that weigh on my heart."
The locals exchanged hesitant, quiet glances, but none showed fear or hostility.
