Ricky's expression turned serious, and he turned back to the forest, to the wild mana that hummed around them.
"First, we must understand the bond," he said.
"You and Ren. The irregular magic does not work by itself. It works with the bond. The stronger the bond, the stronger the magic."
He looked at Ren, who was now perched on Hannah's shoulder, preening proudly.
"Dragon and human. Mortal and myth. Blood and mana. It is a partnership older than time."
Ren huffed.
"Partnership, my ass," he muttered, but there was no heat in it. "I'm the muscle. I am the brain. I teach her all this time, we kick ass."
Ricky smiled faintly.
"Yes, i can see that. Now — let us begin."
He raised a hand, and the golden mana in the air around Hannah surged, flowing toward him, forming a glowing circle between them.
"The irregular magic is not about casting spells," he said.
"It is about channeling. About bonding. About feeling."
He gestured to the circle.
