"Fine. We will help you find your thief. But this stays between us. No one else needs to know the great heroes of Zamorde Port are hunting a kitchen crook."
Elias's face lit up instantly. "Really? You mean it?"
"I mean it," she said.
"But we are doing this properly. We will go to the kitchen, talk to the cook, check the scene, and figure out who is really stealing your pastries. And if we catch them…"
She grinned.
"We will make them apologize."
That afternoon, Hannah followed Elias through the stone halls of Gorthmorde Manor toward the main kitchen.
The air grew warm and heavy with the smell of fresh dough and mild broth as they drew near.
The kitchen was wide and busy, with maids rushing to carry trays and scrub pots, and a broad cook in a flour dusted apron overseeing the hearth.
A small wisp of grey mist swirled around Hannah's shoulder, and Katrina floated in lazy circles, her tiny form occasionally brushing her cheek with a soft nyaa.
