Viewed through the lens of entropy, the second law of thermodynamics can be described simply: in any irreversible thermodynamic process, the net increase in entropy is always greater than zero.

This naturally leads to a profound question: what exactly is entropy?

In a statistical sense, entropy measures the degree of disorder within a system. The more chaotic and disordered a system is, the higher its entropy value.

In practical terms, heat always flows from a hot object to a cold one. Given enough time, all heat will distribute itself evenly. These are observable, everyday phenomena with nothing inherently mystical about them: boiling water cools down, and ice melts. To reverse these natural processes, you must expend additional energy.

However, this seemingly simple law is incredibly frustrating, often leaving people with a profound sense of despair regarding the fate of the universe.
