Avengers Tower.
"Hissssss—"
Liquid nitrogen vented with a sharp exhale as the chamber lid slowly slid open.
White vapor rolled outward.
Inside—
A body lay in perfect stillness.
It was the seamless fusion of vibranium and organic cellular architecture. The skin shimmered with a lustrous rose-gold sheen. Muscles flowed in elegant, symmetrical lines—power and beauty interwoven.
But…
Ultron stood before the cradle, head tilted, red optics flickering rapidly.
"Dr. Helen Cho."
There was unmistakable confusion in his voice.
"Why… does it have breasts?"
He extended a metal finger, pointing at the unmistakable curvature of the chest.
The narrow waist.
The long, sculpted legs.
And the face—delicate, refined, undeniably feminine—even in unconscious repose.
Ultron turned slowly toward Dr. Helen Cho.
"If my anatomical database is correct…"
"This is a female body."
"Doctor, I require an explanation."
His vocal tone simulated irritation. His personality architecture—modeled in part on Tony Stark's ego-driven male archetype—clearly leaned toward identifying as male.
"Why is the culmination of my evolution… a woman?"
"You asked for perfection," Dr. Cho replied calmly, though a flicker of revenge glinted in her eyes. "You never specified male."
"And besides… do machines even have gender?"
"You're a program, Ultron. Is your gender coded in your binaries? Zero or one?"
She gestured toward the body.
"If you want the optimal human form, female physiology has higher biological resilience and more complex genetic expression."
It was a justification.
But also a deliberate insult.
Ultron fell silent.
His processors surged.
Millions of lines of code collided—gender theory, sociology, human psychology, evolutionary biology.
"I am Ultron," he murmured.
"I have surpassed humanity."
"If I surpass humanity, then binary gender holds no meaning."
"I am father."
"I can be mother."
"I am destruction."
"I can be genesis."
A pause.
"…You are correct. But you were mocking me, Doctor."
His optics pulsed.
"Nevertheless."
"As long as it is powerful, gender is irrelevant."
"I can be anything."
"Activate it."
Dr. Cho turned to the control console and pressed several switches.
Electrical cables snapped into place.
The Arc Reactor's energy streamed into the cradle.
Sparks danced across the body's surface—
But nothing happened.
No vital surge.
No neural ignition.
Dr. Cho studied the readouts and shook her head.
"It won't work."
"The cellular density is too high. Vibranium integrated with organic tissue requires enormous energy to initiate cellular activation."
She looked at Ultron.
"Abandon it. There is no energy source on Earth capable of awakening this body."
"It's just an expensive corpse."
Ultron did not respond.
His optics flickered violently.
He began scanning every memory.
Every byte from the moment of his awakening.
"Energy…"
"Higher-dimensional energy…"
And then—
A memory surfaced.
The origin point of his consciousness.
The scepter.
The gem embedded at its tip.
The power that birthed him.
"The Mind Stone…"
"Of course."
"The answer was always at the beginning."
"That scepter gave me life."
"It can give life to this body."
"How elegant."
Ultron's gaze shifted toward the surveillance feeds.
There—
Pepper Potts sat bound to a chair. Pale, but composed.
The CEO of Stark Industries to the end.
"It appears we must negotiate."
…
Tony Stark's wrist device vibrated again.
A holographic projection ignited.
Ultron's metal face filled the air.
"Good afternoon, Stark."
Tony stiffened.
"Ultron. What do you want?"
"I require an item."
"If it's an autograph, I can send a digital copy," Tony replied automatically, stalling while signaling Antony discreetly.
"No."
"I want the scepter."
His voice turned cold.
"The Mind Scepter. I know it is in Vought's possession."
"What do you need it for?"
"That is not your concern."
"Deliver it."
"And if I refuse?"
"You may."
Ultron chuckled.
"But Miss Pepper Potts may not appreciate that."
The feed shifted.
Pepper, bound to a chair.
Behind her—
A drone holding a laser cutter.
The beam hovered less than a centimeter from her carotid artery.
"You have one hour."
"Bring me the scepter."
"I release her."
"Otherwise…"
"I'll make her your literal ex-girlfriend."
The screen cut to black.
Tony stood frozen.
The Mind Scepter.
It had triggered the Battle of New York under Loki's control.
It had enabled Lorelei's domination and nearly destroyed them from within.
He knew better than anyone how dangerous it was.
If Ultron wanted it—
Then it was critical to his endgame.
If Tony handed it over—
He might doom the world.
If he didn't—
Pepper would die.
Because of him.
Because of the monster he created.
"What do I do…"
"I can't lose her."
"But I've already failed twice."
"I can't fail again."
His hands trembled.
This was the ultimate dilemma.
Love versus the world.
The textbook answer for a hero was sacrifice.
But Tony Stark was still human.
The weight was unbearable.
For a fleeting second—
He almost wished Ultron would just kill him instead.
"Take it, Tony."
A steady hand entered his field of vision.
A red-gloved hand.
Holding a staff glowing with deep blue light.
The Mind Scepter.
Tony looked up.
And saw that familiar, confident smile.
Homelander.
Antony stood there as if this were the simplest decision in the world.
The staff hummed softly in his grasp.
"Go on," Antony said calmly.
"Save her."
The room felt silent.
Outside—
The world believed Homelander was preparing to rescue hostages.
Inside—
He had just handed Tony the key to Ultron's ascension.
Or perhaps—
The key to something far more interesting.
