A few days later, after calming down, Kara couldn't help but start making excuses in her mind for Lucas's behavior, trying to comfort her wounded heart.
When she received a call from Elaine, Kara immediately flew to Lucas's house.
At that moment, she finally realized how deeply Lucas had rooted himself in her heart.
After learning that Carrie had been injured first, and that Lucas had then fallen unconscious for several days, Kara took the initiative to shoulder the responsibility of taking care of everyone.
She had also been afraid.
Afraid that when Lucas woke up, he might treat her like a stranger—or just an ordinary friend.
But judging from his reaction earlier, it was clear that his feelings for her hadn't changed.
Especially that last sentence—
"Wait for me to come back and cook for you."
That simple line warmed Kara's heart.
Lucas looked rough and careless on the outside, but when it mattered, he truly cared about her.

On the Way to the Supermarket
While Kara was lost in her thoughts at home, Lucas and Elaine were walking toward the supermarket.
"So," Lucas asked, "what exactly was that bastard who messed with me?"
"What if I told you I don't know?" Elaine replied without turning her head.
"Do you think I'd believe that?" Lucas snorted.
"I think knowing wouldn't actually help you," Elaine said, glancing at him.
Her look clearly said: Stop humiliating yourself.
"At least tell me something!"
Lucas's veins bulged on his forehead.
"That thing stole three quarters of my life essence and mental power. I'm in this miserable state because of it. I can't just stay blind and deaf about it!"
"Lucas, listen to me," Elaine said calmly. "You really can't afford to provoke that being right now. When you're strong enough, I'll tell you."
Can't afford to provoke?
Lucas ran through a list of powerful cosmic entities in his mind.
But none of them seemed capable of doing something like that to him.
Elaine suddenly crouched down and picked up a small stone.
"Right now, you're like this pebble."
She pointed into the distance.
Lucas followed her finger.
It was pointing at a road roller flattening mud and gravel.
"Well… that's not that big of a gap," Lucas said thoughtfully.
Black lines appeared on Elaine's forehead.
"I'm not talking about the roller. I mean the thing behind it."
Lucas looked again.
Behind the roller stood an enormous quarry, with trucks constantly coming and going, carrying massive loads of stone and dirt.
"…Alright," Lucas admitted after a moment of silence. "I have to admit—that's a pretty accurate comparison."
"But I have a question. If that thing was so powerful, why didn't it just kill me?"
Elaine rolled her eyes.
"Have you ever seen a farmer casually kill a chicken that lays eggs—or a cow that produces milk?"
Lucas's face twitched.
"I take back what I said earlier. That is a terrible comparison!"
Elaine kicked a small stone aside.
"Actually, Lucas, even though this incident seemed dangerous, it might actually be a good thing for you."
"You look miserable now, but someday you'll understand."
"After all, not many people get this kind of treatment… from that being."
"So you're saying I should thank it?" Lucas raised an eyebrow.
"What kind of logic is that? I seriously don't understand you!"
"And seriously—stop talking like Ancient One. All mysterious and cryptic."
"Forget it. I won't ask anymore."
Lucas knew that if Elaine refused to say something, there was probably a good reason.
So he stopped pressing the issue.
---
After walking for a while, they soon arrived at the supermarket that had recently reopened.
"By the way, what do you think about Carrie's situation?" Lucas asked while pushing a shopping cart and picking out ingredients for dinner.
"You already visited Ancient One," Elaine replied calmly. "She must have given you an explanation."
"Carrie was always destined to face that day eventually. This incident may have actually helped her."
Lucas frowned.
"No. I have a feeling I've fallen into someone's scheme."
"I think I'm being used as a pawn."
Elaine chuckled softly.
"When you start feeling that way, there's about a 90% chance you're right."
"Damn it!"
Lucas gritted his teeth.
"If I ever find out who's behind this, I'll twist their heads off!"
"Relax," Elaine said. "I'll keep an eye on Carrie and the others for you. Their lives won't be in danger."
Lucas nodded.
He trusted Elaine's feelings toward Carrie. She truly treated her like a younger sister.
"So," Lucas continued, "you at least know where Mephisto and Cyttorak keep their territories, right?"
"I know," Elaine said casually while tossing a jar of strawberry jam into the cart.
"But I won't tell you. At least not yet."
"That's fine. I don't need it right now anyway."
Lucas wasn't stupid.
Charging into their territory alone right now would be suicide.
But not knowing now didn't mean he wouldn't learn later.
Lucas grinned.
"Someday, when the time is right, I'll give them a very big surprise."
Elaine shook her head at his expression.
Soon the two of them reached the checkout counter with two carts full of groceries.
Suddenly—
"Hey! You three! Hand over the money from the register!"
Three men wearing denim jackets and baseball caps burst in, pointing guns at the cashiers.
The terrified cashiers trembled like frightened quails as they began emptying the cash drawers.
"You—come here!"
One of the robbers pointed at Lucas with his gun.
"Put the money into this bag!"
Lucas didn't even bother raising his eyelids.
He completely ignored the man.
The robber took that as an insult.
He walked over and shoved the gun toward Lucas.
"Are you deaf, you idiot?!"
Lucas frowned slightly.
He clearly remembered cleaning up this town once before.
He had warned the gang leaders he drove out:
No trouble in this town.
If he ever found out otherwise…
He'd shove one boss's head straight into another guy's ass.
There were always plenty of people eager to take over a gang leader's position.
After witnessing the terrifying and completely inhuman power Lucas displayed, the local gangs had collectively declared the town a forbidden zone.
Yet today—
Someone dared to rob a store here?
"Are you looking to die?"
The robber pressed the cold barrel of his gun against Lucas's temple.
Lucas finally turned his head.
Suddenly amused, he spoke softly:
"God gave us eyes so we could see beauty…"
"So we could bathe in light…"
"So we could distinguish loyalty from betrayal."
"You…"
"…do not deserve them."
The moment he finished speaking—
The man suddenly screamed.
"Why is it dark?!"
"My eyes—what happened to my eyes?!"
"God! I can't see anything!"
