Chapter 1 - transmigration

I was someone who had a fondness of stories, specifically stories filled with hope. The hope to live on, to fight for a better world, to be with your beloved. Isn't that the most romantic thing ever?

Alas, it appears I awoke in one of the stories that I enjoyed

Standing in front of the mirror, I could only stare at the unfamiliar body I was now possessing.

'It feels strange.'

Clenching and unclenching my fists, I felt… human? How could I describe it

Nevermind, that's not something I should care about. At least I have quite a handsome appearance.

My hair, a dark purple. Neatly combed and cut short. It looked like one of those hairstyles you'd see royalty have. As for the figure, it wasn't bad either. It was toned and seemed decently athletic. Well, as athletic as a thin guy could be. Decent proportions and a good height, only slightly shorter than the mirror I was standing in front of. As for the clothes I was wearing…

It was quite plain. Just a buttoned white t shirt and long pants. Maybe this uniform had a vest or jacket or… i dunno, I've never been good at styling.

Running a hand through my hair, making it messy, I organized my thoughts

'This story, it's probably that. Right?'

There were many stories I could think of. The first story where a hero sealed "the evil", another one where a child rose to be queen and lead the world fourth. This story, it's more like an ending.

I looked around my surrondings. The bedroom I was in was neat, tidy, empty. The only thing that let this room show a sign of life would probably be that book on the dresser and the watch near my bed. That book probably contained my personal details

I grabbed the book, using my long arms to reach over, and opened it

[Tatarus]

Age: 17

Energy: 0

Abyss contamination: #

Skills: [eye of misfortune], [like body, like fluid], [ power of misfortune]

As I guessed, it was my personal details. What an unusual name this body has

I closed the book, leaving it back on the drawer

This story I'm in now, it's not a "hopeful story". if I could describe it, it was shit for a fly.

The main character would lose all his loved ones, a tragedy really. The world is doomed for failure where abyss corruption spreads all over. In the end, only one would survive. He, resetting the world, would doom himself to walk forever into a cycle of nothingness.

At least, that's how I interpret the ending. They just ended on him "resetting the world."

The story left me a sense of loneliness, happiness? No… sadness. Ah, it left me feeling empty. I didn't like the ending

Human emotions were fickle and fragile. Like a thread of silk, it could break easily.

I am human after all

"Well, let's help that hero. Shall we?"

Ah, I've always wanted to a monologue. Snapping my fingers, I felt the air around me turn suffocating.

After I help him, I could go home. That's how stories like this always go, right?

The sun, so beautiful was it not?

Speak in poetry and you shall be trailed, speak in riddles you will be blessed. That was the puzzle this artifact left him. In the end, it was a simple distraction.

The green haired boy looked out the window, holding the bracelet near him. It was a puzzle his master him. One that'd let him learn the truth of this world

"Ahchoo!"

Suddenly sneezing, the boy wiped off the snot with a tissue.

"Why'd I suddenly sneeze? It's so warm outside."

Well, that guy did tell him to keep everything a secret. If a teacher found him using this artifact, he'd probably be beheaded in secret or something

Ha… if only he could kill that old fool. No, he must be patient. With this artifact, he will grow into an abyss creature in the night. The power, the insanity, he craved it.

As he sunk into his thoughts, he would never notice the air around him growing colder.

He looked the window once more, hoping to gaze into the sun, when a black tentacle slowly rose. It moved smoothly, as if it had a mind on its own

"What in the…"

***

Now that that is done with, shall I eat some breakfast? Oh, it's the afternoon. Lunch it is.

I opened up the fridge, there was nothing inside and all I was greeted with was cold air

"It seems the body I've transmigrated into is poor."

First, I don't have any belongings, now I have no food? Next, they'd tell me I have no clot- hm.

I looked at the closet through my open bedroom door and walked towards it.

Opening it, all I could find was a few school uniforms

"…"

Alas, it seems I am in poverty. Do I even have money?

I scooped up the watch I had in my bed gently, if this watch had no money, it'll be the first I eat when I wake up tomorrow.

Just kidding, I'd be kicked out of this school if I did that. Pooping this out would also make me feel like I'm being stabbed through the stomach, probably.

This "watch" was essentially a student ID card, it contained everything we needed, it could even sense our vitals and body heat. Useful, isn't it?.

Whether it contained money is a different question

As I stared at the hologram, I smiled. Thank the stars, it seems this body wasn't in poverty! Not only that, it also had a small inventory, it had something useful inside I could use.

This body just didn't seem to consider eating and clothing a useful function! Is that why it's abit skinny?. I suppose this body either slept naked or in the school uniform for some reason.

Alas, I seem to repeat the word "alas" a lot. Well, i didn't have a lot of human contact.

I walked out the room, sitting on the chair near an open window as a crow flew in

"Ah, good afternoon."

Patting the crow's head, I smiled.

In this world, crows were a sign of misfortune. Perhaps they were, "intrigued' by abyss contamination, or they just flocked everywhere. They were almost always found around abyss contamination sites, or just places where unfortunate things seem to happen. They are quite cute though, no?

As I let the crow nuzzle my finger, as if entranced by the bracelet I had on, a blaring alarm could be heard

[ALL STUDENTS CURRENTLY IN THE SCHOOL, PLEASE HEAD TO THE AUDITORIUM]

Ah, it's time to meet the main character, is it not?

[A STUDENT HAS BEEN MURDERED IN CAMPUS GROUNDS]

Let us head to the auditorium then. I hid the bracelet in the crow's mouth and left the dorm.
