Chapter 7 Separation and Explosion
Aarav fell into a deep well of thoughts after overhearing Bhaskar's conversation. Someone escaped from Aagya Sangathan (the Aagya organization). Power Organization Center. What new game was this. Questions crowded his mind but there was no one to answer them.
Just then Bhaskar strode out with rapid steps and moved toward his car. A decisive harsh expression was etched on his face. The car engine roared and he sped onto the road probably heading toward the Power Organization Center.
Aarav moved toward the door to follow his father but it was too late. The car's red taillights disappeared around the bend in the road. He stood there helplessly running his hands through his hair. Why could not I stop him. Why could not I ask.
What happened Aarav. Arushi's voice broke his trance. She stood on the veranda mild concern on her face. Where did Papa go in such a hurry.
Aarav quickly tried to compose himself. Nothing Didi. He just got a phone call. Maybe some work that is why
Arushi looked at Aarav reading the restlessness in his eyes. Okay. Come have your food. Pushpa Didi had cooked and kept it. Come I will heat it up for you.
Aarav said Okay Didi I am hungry too. Arushi smiled and went inside. Aarav followed her thinking to himself Papa was so angry and he left so suddenly without saying anything. I hope nothing is wrong. No no everything will be fine. Why am I even thinking about all this.
He sat at the dining table his fingers tapping restlessly on the tabletop.
Arushi brought the food and kept looking at Aarav. Aarav what happened. Are you thinking about something. What thoughts are you lost in that you are not even speaking.
Aarav smiled a faint artificial smile. Oh it is nothing like that Didi. Just thinking.
Arushi sat down in front of him. Come on eat now. I have served the food in your plate. I am hungry too and Papa had already eaten.
Okay Didi you eat too. Arushi and Aarav began eating. Silence dominated the dining table broken only by the sounds of spoons.
Aarav Arushi began again her voice soft. Did you talk to Kiyan. Did you two resolve your fight or are you still
Aarav averted his gaze. Yes Didi everything is resolved. His hands began to tremble. He kept avoiding Arushi's eyes digging into his food.
Arushi understood everything. Okay that is good. Do not fight with him anymore okay.
The spoon slipped from Aarav's hand clattering loudly. Without looking at Arushi he stood up and said Didi I am done eating. And he got up and walked toward his room.
Hey wait. You have barely eaten anything. Aarav stop. Arushi called out but Aarav went straight to his room and closed the door.
Arushi thought to herself Maybe a really big fight has happened between them otherwise Aarav never gets angry like this. She finished her food and went to Aarav's room standing outside. She saw that the door was latched from inside. Arushi raised her hand to knock then stopped. After thinking for a moment she walked away.
Inside the room Aarav sat with his head on the table. Tears began to flow from his eyes slowly at first then in an uncontrollable stream. He wiped his tears but they refused to stop. He got up and paced around his room sometimes sitting on the couch sometimes banging his head on the table sometimes looking out the window. Then he looked at his face in the mirror eyes red face sorrowful. He sat back on the bed.
His gaze fell on a glass kept on the table. In anger he picked up the glass and threw it down with force. The glass shattered pieces of glass scattering everywhere. And Aarav held his head and started crying.
Arushi rushed to Aarav's room and pushed the door open. The scene inside shocked her Aarav sat on the floor holding his head crying with shards of glass scattered around him.
Aarav Arushi screamed and ran to him. She cradled him in her lap. What happened Aarav. This all this and why are you crying. What happened. And she too began to cry.
Aarav sobbing with his head in Arushi's lap said Didi yaar what did I do to him. Why is he doing this. I even asked him still he will not tell me. He saves me from trouble but he also ignores me. What should I do Didi. And he started crying again.
Arushi kept wiping his tears and said Aarav control yourself. Do not cry like this.
Aarav sat up in front of Arushi wiped his tears and said Didi you said that talking would fix everything then why is everything still tangled. Why is not anything getting right. What did I do to him.
Arushi hugged her brother and said Some people come into our lives for just a few moments Aarav. Not forever. But it is not their fault it is ours for getting so attached to them that when they go away it hurts us so much that we start hating ourselves wondering what we did wrong. What is lacking in us that person is moving away or telling us to go away. But there is no lack in us Aarav. You have not done anything wrong. You just got attached to him and now that he is moving away it is hurting you.
Aarav said But Didi he started all this. He was the one who gave me so much respect so much love was such a good friend that I thought he also And he started crying again.
Arushi told him Listen pull yourself together now Aarav. And now you will stay away from him understood. If he wants to stay away from you then respect his decision understand. You will do that right.
Aarav looked at Arushi silently. Arushi said You will right. Ignore him.
Aarav nodded. Arushi said You sit here I will get you some water. Arushi brought him water and made him drink it. Now you sleep hmm take rest understand. And she tucked him in with a blanket and left.
Silence now filled the room only the sound of Aarav's irregular breathing and the moonlight falling on the scattered shards of glass. He pulled the blanket tighter around himself trying to escape an inner cold that had frozen to his bones. He repeated Arushi's words some people come for just a few moments. But the memory of that moment when Kiyan had made him feel like he was flying through the air the golden glow of his eyes those were not just few moments. They had been etched into his soul. And erasing them now seemed more impossible than reassembling that shattered glass.
