Chapter 54 - Sealing Shadows

Konan wasn't exactly skilled in sealing techniques, and Obito wasn't either. The only ones truly adept were the teachers he had once harmed in life. Unless they Edo Tensei'd someone and asked them what seal would work best, there seemed no other way. But Obito protested loudly!

Perhaps the tension between them had lasted too long. After a truce, both Konan and Obito found an unusual ease in each other's company. That was why they could now discuss how to seal Black Zetsu in Konan's home.

From this, Kita was extremely annoyed. One dangerous person in the distance—Kisame—and now one in close proximity—Uchiha Obito. Men too, I have to guard against them? Ugh! This time was supposed to be for watching TV with Konan, but now she was stuck in the basement with a certain Uchiha studying Zetsu's seal!

Kita angrily turned off the TV, tossed the remote onto the couch, and stomped toward her bedroom. Bringing work home was the worst. Once Madara's business was resolved, she'd make sure Obito was exiled to the frontier.

That's settled, she thought, climbing onto the bed half-asleep, intent on drawing a few curse circles against Obito. She had no idea how many times she had repeated the ritual before the bedroom door was pushed open. Her lover, brimming with joy, climbed onto the bed, and Kita instantly wanted to kick him to the floor.

Uh… apparently, he really did fall to the floor. Her body had acted faster than her brain's command; she had only thought it, but it became reality.

Konan, utterly confused, couldn't help but laugh. Kita's irritation over Obito vanished in an instant. Sitting up on the bed, she looked at her bewildered lover on the floor. "Sorry, sorry, cramp in my foot," she said quickly.

Konan's mind dropped a line of dark sweat. She stood, dusted off non-existent dirt from her butt, and lay back down.

"Where's Obito?"

—He went back.

Konan described briefly, turned off the main light, switched on the bedside lamp, and glanced at the bored Kita lying on the bed. She asked simply:

—No problem meeting the new members tomorrow, right?

"What problem could there be?" Kita said, a hint of confusion in her voice. Konan thought for a moment and summarized Kakuzu's entry into the organization for her.

—There might be a fight. Not sure of his abilities.

"I heard he's a psychopathic killer, I have to see to know his strength… maybe a cultist," Kita said lightly, without any burden. Konan scratched her head, feeling slightly concerned. They'd been busy with Madara's affair and had forgotten to check on the newcomers. The organization's members were generally composed and principled. But hearing "psychopathic killer" still made Konan uneasy.

—How psychopathic?

"Just kills sometimes." Kita recalled the intel, then added, "From the Yugakure."

A bit troublesome, but not too bad. She knew about the Yugakure—outwardly peaceful, but secretly running experiments to create replacements for Jinchūriki, aiming for the ranks of the Five Great Nations. Ambitious, yes, but hardly extraordinary.

—Be careful of yourself. Kakuzu will go too, so I'm at ease.

Konan nodded. Kita leaned on her lover and asked, "How's your research with Obito going?"

Mentioning it gave Konan a headache. She truly wasn't skilled at sealing techniques, and sadly, neither was Obito. Sealing Madara's will was proving difficult.

—Obito and I are thinking of sneaking into Konoha to steal sealing techniques.

Kita's disgust was clear. "That's the conclusion you came to after one night of research?"

Konan blinked. She thought this conclusion impressive enough. They had spent hours discussing ways to destroy Black Zetsu, simulating dozens of methods to no avail before turning to sealing. After listing all known seals they could use, none worked. Obito, frustrated, decided to go to Konoha to steal a seal. Konan agreed—it was a viable solution—and they planned to go at eight the next morning, when the seal class would be on lunch break.

—That won't work?

"Perfectly efficient," Kita said sarcastically, clearly mocking. Konan pouted, looking at her lover, determined not to encourage the disdain. She flipped over him and pressed down, signaling:

—Sealing Madara may be inefficient, but sealing you? Very efficient.

Kita laughed. The physical intimacy started like this, and ended satisfactorily.

Well, efficiency aside, life went on.

"Hey, Konan."

—Hmm?

"Swear to me: no liking Kisame, no liking Obito, and don't leave me."

—I don't like them.

"I said swear! None of that extra nonsense!"

—Fine, I swear. Otherwise…

"Stop making things up that I didn't approve of!"

—Sorry.

"Sleep.
