Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Disappointments

The darkness engulfed her small frame as she tried to steady her heart. Her head was aching with an intensity she could hardly endure. She tried to calm herself but the constant sound of good fire didnt help her state.

She didnt know what was going on. Everything felt wrong. The headache she managed to ignore for years could no longer be ignored. Silent tears trickled down her face.

Beside her rested two small toddlers, sound asleep. She was glad that they were oblivious to her state but it didnt help the resentment building in her heart from stopping.

The heaviness pulled her under until she could no longer breath. She was drowning. The feeling made her lungs stop functioning properly and soon she was gone. Oblivious to the world. Neither dead or alive.

A silent scream escaped from her throat as she sat up. Her body was drenched in sweet as she struggled to catch her breath. Her shaky hands moved to turn on the bedside lamp.

The brightness was mild, just perfect for her current state. She sighed, urging her body to release the tension.

"It was just a dream! Just a dream! Just.. " another heavy sigh escaped. No matter how much she would like it yo be a dream, it wasnt. The nightmare she just had was a reality she lived.

Something she wished she could erase from her life but couldnt. Because despite the pain it brought, it also came with memories she cherished.

She shook her head, stepping out of bed. The texture of the carpet on her feet brought a smile to her face. Her gaze drifted to the wall clock, her smile diminishing a little. It was still too early for her but she knew she couldnt go back to sleep.

Freya walked towards her dance room. It was the only place she could forget all the worries shs had . The one place that was a sanctuary to her. A home she created for herself.

Once inside, she stretched a little to warm herself up. Before long her body was immersed in a state of euphoria. The music hugged her, holding her in a bliss.

Her body moved to the beat of the piano piece playing in the background. She swayed gracefully, losing herself in the euphoria.

She danced untill her feet were sore and her breath was short. She finally collapsed on the floor exhausted from the heavy workout.

Before long, her breath came in shallow buy steady, her eyes shut as sleep shrounded her once more.

Hours later, Freya woke up to the sound of her door bell. She groggily opened her eyes, looking around. At some point, the room was flooded by natural sunlight, warming the space around her.

A lazy smile graced her lips. Despite the exhaustion she felt, she stood up with a purpose. The constant sound of the door bell prompted her to walk out.

When she finally got to the door and openes it, her smile was wiped away. Standing outside seething in anger was her boyfriend. The man she had let into her life and trusted with her heart.

She observed him trying to understand. Before she could open her mouth to speal, she was pushed aside. The man strolled into her home as though he owned the place.

A frown merred her features but she didnt let it get to her. She closed the door and turned around ready to solve any problem her lover may be having. His mood was a little off.

Sadly, things werent as simple as she though as she later came to find. Untill later that day, she had thought she had things under control. Perhaps if she had known what awaited her, she would have avoided it.

"You are a prude! Every day, you act so prim and proper as though you are the only woman in the world. It's you! You are the problem.

How long have we been together? THREE YEARS! For three years, I waited around, walking on eggshells with you. I am a normal man who has urges that need to be fulfilled.

Why should I wait around for you when all those women are throwing themselves at my feet? You are unworthy of my love and devotion. You don't deserve to be loved!"

Those words echoed in her head two months after the incident. She laughed in self-mockery. That bastard called her unworthy when he couldn't keep it in his pants.

He called her undeserving of love when he was the one caught cheating in their shared house. How ironic! If the victim was a woman with low self-esteem, she would be broken further until nothing was left of her self-worth.

Fortunately, she wasn't one to be swayed by mere words. She did not seek validation from others. Very few people could affect her decisions, and even fewer could influence her moods.

Perhaps, it wasnt that she was a self assured person. It had more to do with the years it took for her to love herself. She had loved herself so much that any extra love from someone else acted as a suppliment.

Two months ago, Liam was among the few who could affect both her mood and decisions. That changed the second she caught him going at it like a rabbit in heat with one of her clients.

The event shocked her to the core at first. Upon her inquiry for answers, the man threw those harsh words at her as though she hadn't wasted three years of her life making him happy.

It took her three days to snap out of the daze and start digging into his life. Being the astute lawyer that she was, she strongly believed in cause and effect.

Freya was anything but stupid. Despite all the heartbreaking words he said to her, she didn't believe that his infidelity stemmed from her wish to retain her purity until after marriage. Her resolute belief was proved right after her investigations.

Lo and behold! He was but a chameleon whose camouflage was advanced enough to fool her for three years.

Three years! She wasted three precious years of her life on a womanizer disguised as a gentleman. She laughed internally at the irony of her life.

Here she was! The best lawyer in Country S among her peers. For the four years of her practice, she had never lost a single case.

Despite how young she was, this was a feat rarely achieved in her field as well as others under the same department. At twenty-five, she managed to make a name for herself, a goal she had set her mind on from a young age.

Contrary to her brilliance in her field, a sly fox managed to get her to trust him. She felt ridiculous inside, disdain directed towards herself.

Liam must have laughed at her behind her back every time she had a dazzling win in court, only to come back home to a tiger in sheep's clothing.

He must have laughed at her stupidity and naivety. Her success must have pained him, for the man never failed to state how much better it would be if she took on fewer projects and spent more time with him.

It never occurred to her that he was slowly planning her doom when she handed in her resignation to open her law firm.

Fortunately, she didn't let him know, planning to give him a surprise. Little did she know that she would be the one surprised.

She shook her head trying to get rid of the negative thoughts floating in her head. Such a pity! The one time she buried her paranoia and trusted someone, it ended up leaving behind more scars.

She sighed again, packing more clothes into her suitcase. The shrilling sound of a phone brought her out of her mind. She received the call, holding the device silently to her ear after the initial hello.

When the call ended, a melanchonic expression took over. As she placed the phone away, a sly smile formed on her lips. She was going back home. She couldnt help but fantasise about her reunion with her siblings and best friend.

A few hours later, two planes landed at the same airport in Vasca City. One was a private jet and the other a public plane. The passengers began to exit one by one.

The last to leave was a svelte figure, dresser in a black t-shirt and blue jeans. As she stepped out of the plane, the yellow glow from the evening sun shone over her head.

Anyone watching found themselves unable to look away. She glowed under the soft light, like an angel descending from heaven. Her lush raven haor rester softly on her back. Despute her eyes being hidden behimd her glasses, her beauty was unrivalled.

The mole beneath her lower lips accentuated her small pouty lips. The paleness of her moon shaped fave was a beautiful contrast to the little red choker wrapped around her neck. Freya stood on the ladder, taking in a deep breath. She was finally back home after a long time.

Although the air felt no differenr from before, she couldnt help but feel differently. She was hit by a nostalgia she didnt know she was capable of feeling. Most of her memories in this place were bitter except the very few but special ones. She sighed again, something she found herself doing a lot lately. Finally, she descended the steps down the ladder.

Despite her trembling heart, her steps never lost their confidence. She was going to brave through as she navigates her life. She couldnt run away forever.

She hailed a cab and drove towards the apartment building she was familiar with. Before long, she was standing inside the apartment surrounded by darkness.
