After his rather upsetting revelations at the Grans, Orian's mind was particularly troubled.
Storm insisted that Orian take the day off in order to process what they had learned, he refused saying that he needed to keep busy instead of dwelling on the problem.
So he went to work instead and taught class.
Or he tried to anyway, but his mind kept returning to what the Grans had revealed.
Who was this mysterious entity in his mind? What did she want with him? Why was she keeping that memory away from him? Were there other memories she was hiding from him?
These were the kinds of thoughts that kept flowing through his mind. He must have dismissed the class at some point without realizing it because he came to his senses as Quill and Quicksilver called him.
"Excuse me, Mister uhh... Orian... Sir?" Said Quicksilver shyly.
Orian smiled.
"The class is over, Quicksilver! You don't have to call me any of that! Just Orian is fine!"
Both of his friends were in his class, but they weren't exactly his top students.
Quill just didn't have the mind for magic, she struggled to remember even the simplest spells and didn't really show any interest in the topic.
She was there because she needed to be there, and he fully expected her to drop the topic when the option became available to her.
Where she excelled however was in Chrome's classes. Anything that required strength or beating things up.
She wasn't much of a strategic thinker however, and tended to rush into situations without thinking things through. His brother was hopeful that she would eventually grow out of it.
She was also a decent marksman just like her mother.
Quicksilver on the other claw had an average skill in magic. Hardly the best Orian had seen, but not the worst either.
What held him back however was his conscience, he had a soft heart and could barely hunt an animal to eat without feeling pity for it.
Not the best trait to have for a predator species and something that his parents were desperate to beat out of him.
Although he had decent memory and learning skill, Orian couldn't see him becoming a battlemage as long as he struggled with this issue.
Orian considered starting to train him as a healer, but quickly found that the sight of blood made him sick.
Due to this, Orian had no idea what his friend's profession would be when he grew up, but he was pretty sure he wouldn't be serving in any combat role unless he overcame his fear.
What he was good at was tracking and he knew almost every single plant growing in several different regions so Orian thought he might make a decent scout when he grew up.
"We were wondering if you'd heard anything from Lavender ? She missed our scheduled get together and she also didn't attend school today. It's not like her and we're getting worried. " stated Quicksilver.
Orian stared at the two kids in confusion.
"Forgive me but the name doesn't ring a bell. She isn't in my class so why would I have heard anything?" Asked Orian.
His friends stared at him like he had grown a second head.
"Of course you know her!! She was one of your best friends since you could talk, and you described her as your top student on more than one occasion!!?" Exclaimed Quill.
Orian was just about to argue when he remembered his revelation from the Grans.
"Could it be?!" Thought Orian.
"Tell me everything about her!" Stated Orian.
They began to tell him how she was his very first friend, how he struggled to fit in at school at first due to being so small compared to the other students.
How everyone mocked him and called him a baby. How he went by himself to cry after being relentlessly mocked during a break, when she came over to consol him.
How she insisted that Orian continued to look for new friends other than her, how she spurred him on and encouraged him to become friends with Quill and Quicksilver.
How she excelled in his magic classes, and how Orian had high hopes for her future.
Orian recalled most of what his friends had said, details about who his little 'guardian angel' were however was 'hazy' at best.
He couldn't recall her face, her name, or even her species. Just the sinking feeling of loss that he could not place.
He didn't need anyone to confirm their information, in his heart he knew it all to be true, what he couldn't understand was what she had to do with his visions.
"Thank you... you just gave me a lead on something that's been troubling me all morning. I'll do everything in my power to find her..." stated Orian.
"Do any of you know where she lives?" Asked Orian.
They shook their heads.
"She never invited us to her home and she never spoke much about her family. " Explained Quicksilver.
After his friends left his class, Orian went to the reception office where students records were kept.
He found Ember at her desk where she usually spent her day.
She was a elder dragon, and one of the first teachers his father had unveiled when he first started the Regimen.
Close to 1000 years old, she had raised several clutches of dragonlings herself and had extensive knowledge on childcare.
She had sunburst orange colored scales with an amber colored mane and two long pointed ears. A single diamond earring hung from her left ear.
When she wasn't giving classes, she organized the school records and met with new parents enrolling their children into the program. She was considered as something of the public face of the school.
"Ahhh, Solaris!!! I was wondering if you'd be dropping by!!" Exclaimed Ember.
When their father first took introduced Orian and Chrome to the other school staff, he used the made up names the city people first gave them after their sparring match against him.
When they later asked him why, he explained that it would be less awkward if the students and staff didn't know they were hatchlings mere weeks ago.
As a result, Orian was known as 'Solaris' and Chrome as 'Mercureum' by their students and the staff.
Only Quicksilver and Quill knew their true identities.
"You were expecting me?" Asked Orian.
"I would hope so!! Everyone else has already come by to say their goodbyes!!" Stated Ember.
It took Orian a moment to recall.
"Your last day before retirement?! That's today? Forgive me, Ember!! I clean forgot about it!!"
"It's all right, Solaris!! I forgive you!" Stated Ember.
Ember announcement last week that she planned to retire and make room for the next generation to take her place. Everyone was sad to see her go, but everybody agreed she had earned her rest.
"If you're not here to wish me well though, then what brings you to my office?" Asked Ember.
