Chapter 99 -  The Dragon King’s Signature Smile Appears

Watching Blade's retreating figure, Ningguang felt that something was off.

But since Blade didn't want to explain, she naturally couldn't press him further.

Besides, the two of them were still competitors.

Even if there was information, he wouldn't possibly share it with her.

With the danger gone, the woman stepped forward and asked,

"That guy looked like someone from your company. Why was he here?"

"No idea. We should just be careful ourselves."

Ningguang definitely wasn't about to mention the employer death incident.

Who knew if her own employer would start doubting her reliability after hearing that?

If she lost her client too, that would be disastrous.

"Alright, let's go home."

The two got into the car and drove off.

Not long after they left, Blade hurriedly ran back.

"Already gone… pity."

Earlier, Blade had simply wanted to get away from Ningguang to avoid embarrassment.

But after walking some distance, an idea suddenly struck him.

I don't have an employer anymore.

That meant he was a free agent.

And if he was free… then seems like whatever he did next was also his freedom.

If I don't get an employer, then none of you should have one either.

A dangerous thought took root.

Blade made a decision.

I'm not going to be a bodyguard anymore.

I'm going back to being an assassin—this is what I'm good at anyway.

As long as I kill all the other employers, won't the game just end?

He'd already been chased for an entire day.

He just wanted this stupid game to be over as soon as possible.

He'd even briefly considered letting those people kill him—after all, he was familiar with dying.

But strangely enough, when the blades came down, he dodged.

Almost like… instinct.

[Silver Wolf]: Something's not right… Blade is afraid of death now?

[Kafka]: Valerius did something, didn't he?

[Valerius]: Correct. Someone who doesn't value life isn't a qualified bodyguard.

[Silver Wolf]: So Blade literally can't commit suicide?

[Valerius]: Yes. Unless he dies protecting an employer, suicide will always fail.

[Firefly]: Then… does that mean Blade will be hunted for a whole month?

[Dan Heng]: No. In a few days, it'll be a police manhunt instead.

Dan Heng understood perfectly.

A month-long chase? Impossible.

Blade was still holding back.

If he truly snapped and started slaughtering people, official forces would step in immediately.

[Topaz]: As expected of a Stellaron Hunter—wanted wherever he goes.

[Silver Wolf]: Occupational consistency.

[Keqing]: That is not something to be proud of.

Inside a standalone villa.

Ningguang followed her employer inside.

At first glance, she saw a white-haired old man seated on the sofa, with a slouchy young man beside him.

"So this is the one trying to steal my job?"

No matter how Ningguang looked at him, he seemed unreliable.

Cheap clothes.

Slouchy posture.

That lazy, hooligan vibe.

Where did he look like a bodyguard?

"Back already."

The old man set down his teacup and warmly introduced,

"This is my granddaughter—your fiancée."

"Fiancée?"

Ningguang was even more confused.

Wasn't this supposed to be job competition?

How did it suddenly turn into an engagement?

Am I really about to lose my job?

"I don't remember having a fiancé."

The woman's face turned cold, offering the young man zero goodwill.

"I arranged this years ago."

The old man smiled apologetically at the young man, then continued,

"You mentioned before that the Tang family's kid kept harassing you.

So I thought—let Lin protect you for a while.

You two can also get to know each other."

"I already have a bodyguard."

Ningguang stepped forward calmly.

"Sir, my employer has a signed contract with us. I will be responsible for her safety."

"A contract? What contract…"

The old man waved his hand dismissively.

"Terminate it. I'll pay double the breach fee."

"You want to break the contract?"

Ningguang's gaze instantly turned icy.

This world might allow breach fees, but she was from Liyue.

Breaking promises in front of her?

Did he know that those who break contracts must pay the price?

As someone long accustomed to power, Ningguang's pressure was overwhelming.

The moment her expression darkened, everyone in the room felt their hearts skip a beat.

The old man was horrified.

How could such a delicate-looking woman carry such terrifying presence?

"Since there's a contract, it's better not to cancel it."

At this moment, the young man finally stood up and walked toward Ningguang, extending his hand.

"My name is Lin Ao. I just returned from overseas.

Looks like we'll be colleagues from now on."

Lin Ao had figured it out.

If she wouldn't leave, then fine—he'd just add another bodyguard.

Besides…

His eyes gleamed as he looked at Ningguang.

This bodyguard was something else—

even prettier than his so-called fiancée.

"Heh."

Ningguang sneered.

"Put that look away, or I won't mind gouging your eyes out."

"Oh? Feisty."

Lin Ao's lips curved into a strange arc—

rising at least forty-five degrees.

[Valerius]: There it is—the Dragon King's signature smile.

[Jean]: Is that a smile? That looks like facial spasm.

[Lisa]: That's a human expression?!

[Guinaifen]: Wow… I feel like if I learn this, I can pull off a huge stunt.

[Sushang]: Please don't. That's disgusting.

[Yae Miko]: Valerius, explain—what exactly is a Dragon King?

She had a feeling this was another "protagonist."

[Valerius]: Ohhh—Dragon Kings are serious business.

An overseas mercenary kingpin. Lawless abroad.

Returns home and inevitably causes massive chaos.

[Dehya]: A mercenary?

Dehya didn't quite get it.

Even a mercenary leader—how dangerous could that be?

[Valerius]: If it's female, he won't let it go. Dangerous enough?

[Barbara]: What?!

[Keqing]: Huh???

[Beidou]: Then… doesn't that mean Ningguang's in danger?

[Yelan]: I think the Dragon King is the one in danger.

[Xiangling]: Same here… Tianquan definitely just got angry.

[Yae Miko]: I see… excellent material.

Her inspiration surged.

Dragon King returns from overseas.

Clashes with Empress Ruyan.

A heaven-shaking battle unfolds!

The outline practically wrote itself.

Inside the room.

Facing Lin Ao's wicked grin, Ningguang was momentarily dazed.

She genuinely couldn't understand how a human could make such an expression.

Were his facial muscles overdeveloped?

His mouth was practically turning vertical.

Seeing her pause, Lin Ao felt pleased.

As expected—my charm is irresistible.

He extended his hand again.

"Please take care of me from now on."

"Heh."

Rolling her eyes, Ningguang turned to her employer.

"Can I beat him up?"

She wasn't a martial specialist—but this was a game.

The rules clearly stated that all bodyguards possessed peak combat power.

Aside from the other guards, no one here could defeat her.

The woman's face darkened.

"What do you mean my man?"

She immediately said,

"I only need one bodyguard.

Why don't you two fight? Whoever wins stays."

"Agreed."

To her surprise, the old man stepped forward in support.
