"What's the point?" she asked quietly, her voice barely audible over the wind. "Tell me. What's the point of any of this?"
"Of what?"
"Surviving. Fighting. Continuing to exist." She still didn't turn to look at him. "My family wants me dead. My own mother disowned me. I can't prove my innocence to anyone except you, and you're the person who tortured me into this broken thing I've become." Her laugh was bitter and empty. "I can't find the people who destroyed my life. Can't get revenge. Can't even die with dignity because I'm too stubborn to give them the satisfaction."
"Liora, step away from the edge—"
"Why?" She turned finally, and her face was streaked with tears she probably didn't realize she was crying. "Give me one good reason why I should keep fighting. One reason why I shouldn't just end this right now."
Thessian's mind raced. What could he say? What reason could he give her when he'd been the one to break her so thoroughly?
