Chapter 27 - The Blood in our Soul

"The mask may be beautiful, but the truth always reveals the face behind it."

Author's point of view

-"Don't make those faces, they were weak." Says Kael.

Kael looks at them with disdain, even though he probably hasn't even noticed.

-"Are you part of the Volturi?" Asks Stefan while preparing to attack.

Kael completely ignores Stefan and looks at the priest.

-"For your own safety, I would stay in that corner." Says Kael emotionlessly. "Answering your question, no, I have no affiliation with the Volturi."

-"Then why did you attack us?" Asks Vladimir. "I don't think we've ever crossed paths, I would have remembered."

-"No particular reason, they were noisy and..." Says Kael. "Is it the right thing to do?"

Stefan and Vladimir stop, stunned, as they look at Kael; the way he said those words without emotion and with a hint of doubt enraged them.

-"Those you killed were just pawns, easily replaceable," Vladimir says angrily. "But they were our pawns, and you will pay with your life for your actions."

At the moment Vladimir finishes speaking, both Stefan and Vladimir attack Kael together, synchronized like machines built to kill. But on that day, there was something different in Kael, perhaps the absence of those who had imparted human essence to him after so much effort to achieve it had revealed an animalistic nature that even Kael himself did not know.

Stefan and Vladimir did not notice, but the priest, leaning on the ground, stares in shock at Kael's face. Moonlight lightly hits his face, and the priest can see those red eyes. Perhaps to a careless glance, those red eyes may seem like any other, but to the priest, those eyes are the personification of a sea of blood.

As soon as both of them reach Kael, he grabs them by the neck. They try to fight, but it's in vain, as if Kael's hands were iron claws gripping their necks.

-"Try a little harder," Kael says. "Actually, the attack was perfect, the speed and timing are not on your side. Hmm, a scratch, if you manage to scratch me, I'll let you go."

Kael throws both of them, destroying several chairs in the church and the altar. The moment the cross falls to the ground, shattered, his eyes gain clarity for a few seconds before returning to normal, and he looks at Stefan and Vladimir with the same emotionless gaze.

Vladimir and Stefan look at Kael with anger, humiliation, and most importantly, Fear.

Both know they have to survive, so they prepare themselves again, this time more serious and focused. They attack Kael from all sides, but he just dodges without moving, so they decide to attack his legs. Kael disappears and appears behind Vladimir, giving him a top-down punch with so much force that it cracks the ground. At the same moment, Stefan attacks him from the side, but Kael turns, grabs his shoulder, and tears off his entire arm. Kael continues to look at both of them without emotion as Stefan starts to laugh.

 -"We won!" says Stefan, panting.

Kael stared at the crack on his arm with a clinical detachment, as if looking at a broken tool rather than his own flesh

-"Well, I hope you enjoy the victory." says Kael.

Vladimir and Stefan look humiliated at Kael but quickly vanish into the night. Now, in the church, only Kael and the priest remain.

-"So, priest, where is your god?" Kael mocks. "Did he answer your prayers?"

The priest cannot hide his fear but responds to Kael.

-"Well, I'm still alive, aren't I?" says the priest.

Kael looks at the priest, uncomfortable with his conviction despite the fear.

-"I see, and in a way, I envy your innocence," says Kael. "But look at the world, the war, the deaths, some even in the name of your god. I am a monster, but am I really that different from you? I kill because it is my nature, but you? You kill for power and greed."

Kael is no longer interested in talking to the priest, so he just leaves while the priest remains silent in the destroyed church.

 Stefan's point of view

-"What was that monster?" asks Vladimir.

-"Do I look like a seer to you?" says Stefan. "Whatever it is, we will have our revenge!"

-"Revenge? Revenge is useless if you're not alive to carry it out," says Vladimir.

-"He humiliated us, so he has to pay, no one humiliates us and gets away without paying dearly," says Stefan. "We just have to find the right allies."

 Kael's Point of View

They were weak, far too weak. Was I really that weak or were my opponents strong? No, I was weak. Why should I continue to hide the monster? It just wants to be free. Everyone wants to be free, right? Isn't that normal? Next time I meet Cain, I can simply rip him apart, make him suffer, and beg. Yes, I can hardly wait to meet Cain.

But where should I go? Well, it doesn't matter. I will just move forward, I am sure he will eventually show up, he always does.

As I leave the city, I see a child beside a man's body crying, however, I feel nothing at that sight and just ignore it as I keep walking away. Just as I am about to disappear into the darkness, I stop. I feel a certain discomfort within me, as if I am losing something important. I go back, a little confused, and leave the pouch I have with gold coins by the child, and then I vanish into the darkness.

A little late I know, you can hit me I let you.

This Saturday unfortunately I will work again and next one, as I had already said, I will not be at home. (It's not really unfortunate, although tiring, they pay me well for working on Saturday. And as everyone knows, money doesn't bring happiness, but it does help.)

I should take a vacation now for the summer so as I said before, later I will make it up to you.

I'll see what I can do, even if it's during the week. It's normal, writing a little every day and rewriting because I'm still not satisfied even if in the end I hardly feel satisfied.

I appreciate your support and strength. I don't think I need to mention your names, you know I'm talking about you, yes thank you.
