Chapter 116: Tense Situation
Returning to the inn, the group had rented an additional room for the two siblings to stay together; initially they intended to rent separately but they were siblings so staying together was better. Not to mention the group did not have much money.
The two siblings were sleeping in a room.
Night had fallen, the light wind rustled, the bright moonlight shone down illuminating everywhere; today the moon was full so there were many people going outside, borrowing the moon as a lamp. Clouds blew slowly, the sky had many sparkling stars.
The group had not yet slept and were discussing with each other. Each person sat in a corner.
Kazuka spoke up: "So now I think we will temporarily help them have a place to stay for a few days, okay?
Takeshi nodded.
"They ran here asking for rescue, should we just leave them be?"
Elyssia: "So we will help them until we leave, agreed?"
The whole group glanced at each other and nodded.
Ayaka: "Luckily these past few days we went to work and have a little money to be able to help."
Aoto: "Then still follow the old plan, no changes."
The whole group nodded in agreement together.
…
One day later.
The residents were discussing very excitedly, the noisy sound like a swarm of bees, competing to speak; even in the markets instead of asking each other to buy things, it was now discussing matters.
There was a group of four middle-aged women, sitting at a vegetable stall.
"Heard anything? Heard that Roam City sent a letter to our city's Ravencourt family side. Heard that their side wants our side to hand over that person."
"Hand over what person?"
"Heard that the two children of Lord Varlen were kidnapped by the Ravencourt family side. That side is gathering soldiers already."
"Don't say there will be a war between the two cities? I don't want my husband and son to have to go anywhere."
"Likely it's real. The Drahm family inherently dislikes the Ravencourt family. Most of the business and merchants are on this side, the other side is like being robbed."
"Not to mention before there were also disputes over two large iron mines with each other. So there has been an old grudge, likely the Drahm family side will take advantage of this opportunity to take back what belongs to them."
"Um um, sounds reasonable."
"Heard there is a group of people in the North side of our city gathering together and wanting the Ravencourt family to concede and not wanting war. Information from yesterday and just this morning the residents have rushed to the streets to protest."
"But will the matter be that serious?"
"If not serious then what? I eavesdropped that the match at the arena of Mythyr and some guy I forgot. Actually it wasn't for honor or anything."
"But this is actually the Ravencourt family selecting someone new stronger than Mythyr to carry out this kidnapping plan."
"But why do they have to kidnap?"
"Simple, currently there are many merchants bringing strange goods, even monsters greatly affecting this city. Two days ago there was a merchant entering the city and bringing a monster, and the soldiers only after a long time could control it."
"Especially they went through Roam City then through our Tharros City. Like that it's clear already."
"Surely they want to retaliate. But didn't expect the other side to send a letter demanding children simply but also threatening if not handed over there will be unpleasant consequences."
"Speaking of which, earlier I went to the other side and saw soldiers moving, seems Tharros City also wants to fight."
....
Moving to an extremely luxurious room, paintings on the wall, extremely luxurious vases, glowing gold swords placed on racks.
Cavensyl with an angry face was sitting with his legs up on the table, expression extremely angry. Standing in front of Cavensyl was Wafta; he bowed down in greeting and stood straight.
Cavensyl growled:
"How is the preparation going?"
Wafta was the deputy captain of the city's military; he nodded, he was still breathing heavily after gathering soldiers and arranging, then running very fast to meet Cavensyl.
"I have finished gathering the soldiers, sir."
Cavensyl with discomfort but also nodded. Tense expression clearly shown through every facial feature, he knew this could be the situation bringing the city to ruin.
But Wafta said:
"Sir, this matter is progressing extremely poorly. Without Mythyr, if a real battle erupts it will be very difficult."
Looking far away out the window.
"Not to mention with this way of making excuses. If the royal family or our King investigates. Just looking alone one can see our side is the wrong side."
"Furthermore the bottom is extremely troublesome; the residents have all run out to the streets. They seem to want us to concede to the Roam City side."
Cavensyl the more he heard the more uncomfortable he felt, head aching like splitting wood before the current situation.
Right then Selena pushed the door hard and entered. She bowed low a bit and greeted her father:
"Father called for me."
Cavensyl glanced through the letter on the table, then he reached out and grabbed it and crushed it with discomfort.
"Surely you know the current information, right?"
Selena bowed her head a bit, her voice light:
"I have heard through the current situation."
"The problem is he wants his children and where to find his children? It could be his arrangement and he wants to destroy us. So temporarily just try to defend and stall as much as possible to find more information."
"I walking along the road to here also thought through it. I think we will hold out and secretly find some kind of evidence, or could even retaliate against his lowly scheme immediately."
Cavensyl also calmed his anger somewhat but his face was still very unsightly.
"I understand, but truly it is hard to defend let alone stall for time."
"Mythyr was defeated, now let our whole family go to battle? Certainly not."
Wafta suddenly turned to Selena and bowed.
"Miss Selena, how about you try to hire the guy who defeated Mythyr to help?"
Cavensyl slammed the table, stood up and shouted loudly, the strong slam making the table shake and let out several loose sounds, he screamed:
"Not allowed. Wafta, that is why I don't nominate you too much."
Wafta was startled in bewilderment.
"If we hire him then it's no different from confirming the rumors are true?"
Selena suddenly spoke, cutting across her father:
"Wait, I think I will try to hire his friends. His friends are quite strong."
Cavensyl calmed down a bit when it was his daughter speaking.
"Really?"
Selena nodded.
"Yes."
Wafta wanted to speak but stopped.
Selena spoke again to confirm:
"Then let me try to go and ask first."
"Temporarily just secretly hire outside mercenaries along with letting our soldiers operate and practice more. Also recruit more soldiers in the city."
Cavensyl silently listened to his daughter's presentation.
Selena continued:
"Currently temporarily stop activities related to the city on their side. Along with that tell our key merchants to no longer sell over there."
"Next is to send people to scout around over there and see."
Cavensyl also couldn't think of a better way than his daughter and had to accept.
"Fine, then decide so."
Turning to Wafta standing there listening.
"You, go call my children back. Remember don't do anything to let it show."
…
At this time, at some road. The crowd packed the road and was extremely noisy. They were in front of the main house of the soldiers.
There were people who did not want war, only wanted peace. There were people who did not want their relatives to go to the battlefield and meet danger.
"Concede quickly."
"Absolutely no war."...
"We will not war for this city. Unless it is a national war."
In some other places they were also coming to the places where the soldiers were staying and making a ruckus.
The soldiers were trying to block them from inside with difficulty before the sea of people in front of their eyes.
But there were factions that went contrary to the peace side. Men from middle-aged to almost silver-haired. They wore armor already on their bodies, sabers and swords, axes and hammers,... All kinds of weapons were ready like a bellicose army. They were roaring in front of several spots where soldiers were placed to keep residents safe.
"Must not concede..."
"Must not let our Ravencourt be looked down upon like that. We need to retaliate against that side with lots of stones."
"Attack Roam City for me."
There were even bellicose women squeezing in and roaring support.
"Fight them back."
They roared together and drew swords as if of one mind, eyes burning with the fire of bellicosity. The fence made of large wooden logs was struggling to hold out against the large wave of people, the gate also had to sway. The soldiers were extremely bewildered as no orders had come down.
Toward the taverns, there were ones in black sitting and talking with guys having aggressive faces, large bodies full of muscles, they were extremely bellicose. Ravencourt City was trying to gather more forces outside and inside to best prepare if a battle between the two clans took place.
It seemed these drunks also seemed quite interested, both sides nodded to each other repeatedly, seemed to agree to each other's agreement.
Even some people went into slave trading places to find more people. Because it was a tense situation just starting, grasping the other side's military information was unclear, so excess was better than deficiency. The selection principles were also strict to avoid having spies inside.
And especially they were selecting and offering the best favors for young people from about seventeen to eighteen years old participating in the city's force would have very good treatment for them and for their families. They also called back men over fifty years old to re-join the military.
Generally Ravencourt City's situation was extremely chaotic, one side supporting war, one side wanting concession and peace. And especially being put into a difficult passive position, only able to be ready, unable to counter-attack. Because looking from all sides, those pieces of information, rumors showed Ravencourt house was truly having intentions.
