Chapter 78 - Chapter 78 — First Battle

[[[This novel is complete in pdf on my patreon]]]

Bai Yue's first clash on the Outside Territory Battlefield came faster than expected.

Almost the moment the ambush erupted, he was intercepted by a lion-shaped Monster Race warrior.

The creature's body resembled a sleek black panther, its muscles flowing with terrifying elasticity. Its exposed skin was smooth and glossy like obsidian, while a thick black beard framed its neck like hardened ink. Most striking of all were its eyes—three vertical rows of six, eighteen eyes in total—cold and predatory, each one faintly glowing with malicious intelligence.

While evading the opponent's opening strike, Bai Yue flicked a thought into the Virtual Universe Network.

Six-Eyed Ink-Beard Lion.

A notorious combat race within the Monster Race, famed for overwhelming physical power and terrifying innate abilities.

As its first attack failed, the Six-Eyed Ink-Beard Lion let out a low growl and lashed its tail violently.

At the end of that tail was a heavy meteor hammer, chained directly to the armor integrated with its body. With the tail's full swing, the meteor hammer ignited with blazing energy, streaking through space like a falling star as it smashed toward Bai Yue.

The energy it carried was immense—enough to shatter ordinary World Lords in a single blow.

Bai Yue did not retreat.

His dark-golden long staff swept forward in a clean arc.

"Bang—!"

The collision shook the void.

Violent shockwaves exploded outward, space itself trembling as if it were about to fracture. The meteor hammer was blasted aside with overwhelming force, and the Six-Eyed Ink-Beard Lion was sent flying backward, its massive body tumbling uncontrollably.

Even so, the Monster Race warrior was clearly battle-hardened. Using the recoil, it twisted midair, barely stabilizing itself before planting all four claws against the void.

With a roar, it charged again.

Its right claw rose high, law energy surging wildly. The strike that followed carried a tearing force that seemed capable of ripping heaven and earth apart.

At the same time, two of the eighteen eyes on its forehead flared.

An invisible, illusory wave surged forward—silent, insidious.

This was the Six-Eyed Ink-Beard Lion's innate soul technique.

A soul shock, capable of stunning an opponent's consciousness and freezing their reactions for an instant.

On countless battlefields, that single instant had meant death.

The lion was confident. After sensing Bai Yue's raw strength in the previous exchange, it abandoned caution entirely and unleashed both its physical and soul attacks simultaneously.

Unfortunately for it—

It had chosen the wrong opponent.

The illusory shock swept into Bai Yue's sea of consciousness… and vanished without even raising a ripple.

At the core of his mind, the nine-story pagoda stood unmoving, suppressing the intrusion effortlessly, as if brushing away dust.

Bai Yue's eyes remained calm.

His long staff rose.

With a single upward swing, he shattered the Heaven-and-Earth-rending claw strike. The remaining force surged forward, pulverizing the Six-Eyed Ink-Beard Lion's right claw into drifting dust.

A dull roar echoed.

The monster was flung backward like a broken doll, crashing into the nearby asteroid belt. It slammed through rock after rock before finally smashing into a thousand-meter-wide asteroid, which exploded into fragments.

Bai Yue did not hesitate.

His figure flashed forward.

This was his first mission—he had no intention of letting a teammate fall.

As he charged into the asteroid belt, two scarlet beams suddenly shot toward him from behind a shattered rock. They were fired from another pair of the Six-Eyed Ink-Beard Lion's eyes.

The beams struck Bai Yue head-on.

His high-grade treasure armor flared, absorbing most of the impact. His body paused for only the briefest moment before surging forward again, completely unimpeded.

The lion panicked.

Within the Monster Race communication channel, its voice rang out, strained with urgency.

"Motos! Lan Long! Hurry—save me! This Human is too strong, I can't hold him—!"

"Hold on! We're coming!"

Two Monster Race World Lords immediately disengaged from their battles with Ao Tun's group and rushed toward the asteroid belt.

But they were already too late.

Before they even reached the edge of the belt, a final message echoed through the channel—

"…It's too late. Captain… avenge me."

When the two Monster Race warriors burst into the asteroid field, what they saw froze them in place.

Bai Yue stood calmly amid drifting debris, placing a headless corpse into his space ring.

Rage exploded through them.

Without hesitation, both unleashed their strongest attacks, charging straight at Bai Yue.

He lifted his gaze, a faint smile touching his lips.

Good.

He had been worried they wouldn't come.

Stepping forward, Bai Yue met them head-on.

The first was a rhinoceros-like Monster Race, nearly five hundred meters long. Lightning crackled wildly along its single horn, the power of lightning-type origin laws surging violently as it lowered its head and charged, aiming directly for Bai Yue's chest.

Behind it, a First Ancestor Bird followed closely. Wind-type origin laws wrapped around its wings, sharp light flashing at the tip of its beak as it prepared to strike.

The clash was instantaneous.

"Crack—!"

The rhinoceros monster howled in agony.

Its single horn shattered under the impact of Bai Yue's staff, fragments scattering through space. The sheer force sent its massive body reeling backward.

Bai Yue moved to finish it immediately—

But the First Ancestor Bird screeched, flapping its wings violently. Endless wind blades erupted, tearing toward Bai Yue from every direction, while its World Projection expanded outward, attempting to suppress his movement.

The two Monster Race warriors finally understood the gap between them.

Fear surged.

They turned and fled at full speed.

Too slow.

Bai Yue shattered the wind blades with a single staff sweep and accelerated, his speed dwarfing theirs. His high genetic level, terrifying raw power, profound law comprehension, and multiple flight secret techniques combined into overwhelming mobility.

In moments, he closed the distance.

As they burst out of the asteroid belt, both sides of the battlefield saw the scene clearly—

A lone Human World Lord chasing two fleeing Monster Race warriors.

Shock rippled through both camps.

Bai Yue's World Projection expanded, crushing down on the rhinoceros monster and freezing its escape. His dark-golden staff descended, carrying the might of countless laws.

"One Staff—Collapse Heaven and Earth."

The rhinoceros monster roared in despair, forcing its World Projection to the limit and launching a desperate counterattack.

It didn't matter.

The staff smashed through everything—projection, defense, resistance—and the vibration directly shattered its life core.

On the other side, the First Ancestor Bird fell moments later, its core destroyed just as cleanly.

The battlefield fell silent for an instant.

Then—

"Haha! Walker, well done!" Black Yuan laughed loudly, even while fighting two Undying opponents.

"Excellent," Lan Lin said calmly, her eyes bright.

The Human team's morale surged.

The Monster Race, however, felt a chill spread through them.

Their "sure kill" ambush had turned into a disaster.

"Fire Scale," the winged tiger—Fierce Tiger—growled coldly, "go deal with him."

"Yes."

One of the Undying disengaged.

Fire Scale moved like a blazing comet, rushing toward Bai Yue. His body resembled a centaur from ancient myth, except it was covered entirely in fiery red scales, radiating oppressive heat and murderous intent.

The moment he arrived, the First Ancestor Bird's corpse was already drifting lifelessly through space.

"Human," Fire Scale's voice thundered through god power, shaking the void itself.

"You deserve to die."

Bai Yue didn't reply.

Fire Scale raised his hand and drew a crimson longbow from his space ring. In a single fluid motion, he drew the bowstring and nocked an arrow formed of condensed divine power.

The bow creaked.

The arrow pointed directly at Bai Yue's heart.

Bai Yue tightened his grip on the Hun Yuan Staff.

His first true battle… had only just begun.
