"According to what that person said, there must be treasures left behind in these palaces," Weibulu suddenly transmitted his voice. "Otherwise, bringing us here just to stare at things we can't take would be nothing but a bad joke."
Among the five who had entered the Illusion Heart Realm together, only three had successfully emerged. The two werewolf brothers were nowhere to be seen—clearly still lost within the illusion, with little hope of returning anytime soon.
When Bai Yue had arrived earlier, his mind had still been affected by the aftereffects of the illusion, so he and Mang Long had only exchanged brief voice transmissions.
"That makes sense," Mang Long replied. "With this scale of construction, using such an enormous amount of G-grade metal, there's no way nothing valuable was left behind. Let's move—if we're too slow, everything worth taking will be snatched up."
The three of them immediately turned and left the palace.
Passing through the outer courtyard, they arrived at another vast square. After a brief scan of their surroundings, all three instinctively focused on the largest palace at the center of the complex and headed straight for it.
They were not the only ones who reacted.
None of the Undyings present were fools. Once the thought occurred, realization followed quickly. Figures began converging from all directions, rushing toward the central palace.
By the time Bai Yue and the others arrived, several groups were already facing off inside.
The main hall was enormous, empty to the point of solemnity. At its very center floated a single bead—quiet, ancient, and profound—emitting a faint aura that seemed to resonate with the entire palace itself.
In an instant, everyone's gaze locked onto it.
"Control core!"
"It's a control core!"
"This must be the control core of this entire space!"
Gasps and exclamations rang out.
The misunderstanding was almost inevitable. Throughout the universe, most spaceship control cores took this form. Those with deeper knowledge also knew that many large-scale treasures possessed a core as well—once recognized as master, the entire treasure could be controlled at will.
The atmosphere inside the hall instantly turned icy.
Unintentional killing intent seeped out, filling the space like invisible frost.
The gentle expression on the Separation Marquis's face vanished. His pupils contracted slightly as his aura drew inward, restrained to the extreme—like a leopard crouching before a lethal strike. His gaze swept coldly across the surrounding teams.
The Monster Race, Insect Race, and Automaton Race all became instantly vigilant.
People die for wealth. Birds die for food.
For most Undying, even a small piece of G-grade metal was enough to drive them mad. Earlier, when they discovered that the tables and chairs were made of G-grade metal, many had already tried to seize them—only to fail because everything was fused into the palace itself and protected by dense secret patterns.
But now, with the appearance of this so-called control core, everything changed.
If the palace could truly be controlled, then all of it—the vast G-grade metal structure, the rare medicinal plants in the flowerbeds—would become obtainable.
That level of temptation was enough to push anyone over the edge.
"Get out!"
Suddenly, the leader of the Monster Race team roared, pointing directly at the three Automaton Race Undying.
At the same time, powerful auras surged outward. The Human Race and Insect Race also pressed down on the Automaton Race with unmistakable hostility.
Morris and his two companions stiffened.
Anger flared within them, but they did not dare speak. Against such overwhelming pressure, any resistance would only hasten their deaths.
Morris felt a bitter urge to laugh.
Just moments ago, surviving the Illusion Heart Realm had made him think his fortune had turned. Now, that fragile hope shattered completely.
"From now on, you are forbidden from entering this hall," the Separation Marquis said coldly, killing intent surging. "Anyone who steps inside again will be slain on the spot."
Faced with this declaration, not only the Automaton Race Undyings, but also many weaker Undyings—especially those from affiliated races who knew they had no chance—quietly withdrew from the hall.
Unless an order came directly from the highest authorities of the Human Race or a Grand Alliance, there was no true chain of command between the four major races and their affiliated races. Obedience was never guaranteed.
"Let's go as well," Mang Long transmitted to Bai Yue.
Bai Yue had already reached the same conclusion and followed without hesitation.
"Something feels wrong," Mang Long said once they were outside. "This is all too smooth. Let's search elsewhere."
Bai Yue glanced at him with mild surprise. He hadn't expected such careful judgment from someone with Mang Long's rough exterior—but thinking about it, surviving the Outside Territory Battlefield for so many years without caution was impossible.
Boom!
A violent explosion shook the ground behind them. Terrifying shockwaves rippled through the palace complex.
The battle for the "control core" had begun.
Even from outside, the deafening roars of attacks made it clear that no one inside was holding back. Every strike was aimed at killing.
The three did not linger and continued toward other palaces.
Inside the main hall, chaos reigned.
Brutal attacks flashed endlessly. Undying divine power surged, afterimages overlapped, and the Separation Marquis's sword energy swept horizontally across the hall. Treasures detonated one after another, shaking the structure violently.
Bodies were blown apart, then rapidly reassembled.
For Lord-level Undyings, having an Undying body meant that mere destruction of the physical form was not fatal. Only annihilating the soul or destroying more than half of the god body would result in true death.
Suddenly, the Monster Race—holding an overwhelming numerical advantage—launched a coordinated assault.
Their combined attack crashed into the Human Race formation. Several Human Undyings were caught off guard, their god bodies instantly obliterated, perishing on the spot.
Even the Separation Marquis suffered heavy losses, his god body significantly damaged.
The situation turned sharply.
The Monster Race pressed their advantage relentlessly.
Not long after, a thunderous explosion echoed through the hall.
A Human Race Undying, having lost too much god power, chose to self-destruct in a final act of defiance.
The self-destruction of a near–Lord-level Undying within such a confined space was terrifying. However, his remaining god power was already depleted, and he was too far from his enemies—the explosion failed to injure them significantly.
Seeing that the situation was hopeless, the Separation Marquis decisively withdrew, leading his remaining subordinates out of the hall.
With the Human Race gone, the Monster Race and Insect Race paid them no further attention and continued fighting each other.
Before long, the Insect Race team was also forced to retreat. Despite their name, there was no true Zerg Queen among them—only affiliated races—making sustained confrontation impossible.
At last, silence fell over the palace.
The Monster Race emerged as the sole remaining force.
Several of their members moved to guard the entrance, sealing off the main hall to prevent any interference.
"Lord Demon Blood Marquis, quickly recognize the control core!" a Monster Race Undying urged eagerly.
The Demon Blood Marquis stepped forward without hesitation, extending his god power toward the floating bead. His brow soon furrowed.
"My lord?" a subordinate asked nervously.
"There's no response," the Demon Blood Marquis said slowly. "I'll try again."
He focused fully and attempted recognition once more.
At that moment, the bead suddenly emitted a faint glow.
Then—
It shattered into countless points of light.
Those lights gathered in the air, forming the projection of an old man clad in fiery armor.
Yuan Bin.
"Haha!" Yuan Bin's laughter echoed throughout the palace, filled with mocking delight. "This so-called control core was something I made casually. Even if you try to recognize it as your master, it will never succeed."
He paused, then added with malicious amusement:
"Don't tell me… you killed so many people fighting over it?"
The voice carried far beyond the hall. Everyone—those who had been driven out, those looting elsewhere—heard it clearly.
For a moment, the entire ruin fell into stunned silence.
The faces of the Monster Race powerhouses twisted with rage and disbelief.
"Impossible…"
"How could this be…?"
Their killing, their sacrifices—everything had been for nothing.
