Chapter 413 - Chapter 413: Has the Dragon Slayer Become the Dragon?

More than three hundred years ago, Rena was born within Grant's Sovereign Palace, becoming the fifth-generation descendant of the Locke Clan and Locke's great-great-granddaughter.

As the first little princess born into the Locke Clan in more than a thousand Cycles, Rena was dearly cherished by Locke.

When it came to his son, grandson, and great-grandson, Locke had only shown them some affection while they were young. Once they began cultivating, he merely planned out their cultivation paths.

After they became Deities, he directly sent them out of Necropolis Mountain to gain experience on their own. Only when they had fused their Profound Mysteries to the point where they were just one step away from becoming Paragons would Locke personally intervene, giving them the final crucial guidance needed to break through.

But when it came to Rena, Locke spoiled her to the utmost.

For his son, grandson, and great-grandson, Locke's minimum expectation had always been that they become Paragons and obtain the qualifications to comprehend the higher-order Laws.

As for his great-great-granddaughter Rena...

He had no expectations whatsoever.

As long as Rena wanted to become a Sovereign, Locke would personally head out in the middle of the night, kill the Chief Sovereigns of two elemental Laws and one Edict, and gather three Chief Sovereign sparks for her.

Because of this, even after Rena had become a Deity in both the Laws of Lightning and the Laws of Fire, Locke still had no intention of letting her leave Necropolis Mountain.

Who could have imagined that Locke had only entered seclusion for less than a hundred years?

When he emerged, he discovered that his most beloved great-great-granddaughter had already left Necropolis Mountain and gone out into the world alone.

After summoning Rena's father, Grant, to the Sovereign's Palace, Locke immediately read through Grant's memories.

Only then did he learn what had happened.

Twenty years earlier, after Rena had become a Deity through the Edicts of Fate, Grant had explained the traditions of the Locke Clan to her.

Back then, both his own father, Veer, and Grant himself had been thrown out of Necropolis Mountain by Ancestor Locke as soon as they had become Deities through a single elemental Law.

Since Ancestor Locke doted on Rena so much, even after she had become a Deity in two different elemental Laws she still hadn't been sent away.

Grant had therefore guessed that perhaps their ancestor intended to wait until Rena had become a Deity in all three affinities before allowing her to leave Necropolis Mountain.

After all, Rena was a triple-element soul mutant.

Once she became a Demigod in all three affinities, although she would only be a Demigod, the might of her fused divine power would allow her to possess strength comparable to that of an ordinary Highgod.

Thus, after Rena became a Deity through the Edicts of Fate, Grant had told her about the traditions of Locke's lineage.

Meanwhile, after Locke entered seclusion, Rena had already been bored out of her mind.

Once she learned of this tradition, she immediately clamored for Grant to send her out of Necropolis Mountain.

"I sent those boys out to gain experience after they became Deities because I wanted them to grow into independent individuals."

"So what? Does our family lack one more Sovereign?"

"If Rena truly wants to become a Sovereign, I'll go kill Bayer right now and reserve that Wind Chief Sovereign spark for her!"

"Grant sure has guts! He actually dared send Rena out just like that!"

"If he weren't my great-grandson—and Rena's father—that palm strike would've beaten him to death!"

Locke's furious roars echoed throughout the entirety of Necropolis Mountain.

Within the palaces halfway up the mountain, Loran, Veer, and Grant all stayed hidden inside their own residences like frightened quails, not daring to show their faces.

None of them had expected that allowing Rena to leave Necropolis Mountain would make Father (Grandfather) (Great-Grandfather) this furious.

It seemed...

Rena's position in Father's heart was probably second only to Mother's.

"And Loran! And Veer! None of you stopped Grant! Every one of you unfilial descendants!"

Inside the Sovereign's Palace, after cursing his great-grandson Grant for a while, Locke found that venting his anger at only one person wasn't satisfying enough, so he dragged his son Loran and grandson Veer into the scolding as well.

"You..."

The Death Chief Sovereign, Lilia, rolled her eyes at Locke, utterly speechless at the way he was venting his anger indiscriminately.

She had never imagined that the Locke who had once resolved to make people "fear less" could one day display such a side of himself.

Just listen to what he had said earlier.

What did he mean by, "If Rena wants to become a Sovereign, I'll immediately kill Wind Chief Sovereign Bayer and leave the Wind Chief Sovereign spark for Rena"?

Fortunately, Lilia had sealed off everything that happened atop Necropolis Mountain.

Otherwise, if those words had spread beyond the mountain, every Sovereign whose affinity matched that of the little princess would probably begin worrying that Chief Sovereign Locke had already started treating them as nothing more than backup Sovereign sparks for her.

Had the dragon slayer...

Ultimately become the dragon?

The descendants of Locke's lineage enjoyed an excellent reputation among the Sovereigns.

The biggest reason was that every one of Locke's descendants had reached Sovereign-level strength by relying on their own abilities to comprehend the higher-order Laws.

Of course, thus far, only Loran had reached the level of an elemental Chief Sovereign.

Veer and Grant still possessed only the strength of Lesser Sovereigns.

Even so, both Veer and Grant had already comprehended more than twenty percent of the higher-order Laws.

It was simply that neither of them possessed much talent when it came to fusing higher-order Laws with lower-order Laws, leaving them only around ten times stronger than ordinary Lesser Sovereigns.

Of course, Locke had also given them ample Sovereign's Might that perfectly matched their own affinities.

(T/N: Huh? That doesn't make any sense. I assumed Sovereigns might no longer had any effects on Sovereign's?)

Once absorbed into their bodies and fused into composite Sovereign's Might, they were in no way inferior to Intermediate Sovereigns.

Because the members of Locke's lineage possessed Sovereign-level strength without needing Sovereign sparks, the other Sovereigns all treated them with great courtesy.

After all, not to mention that Loran, Veer, and Grant still had Chief Sovereign Locke and the Death Chief Sovereign protecting them...

Even just the three generations of grandfather, father, and son alone were enough.

If anyone truly pushed them into a corner, they could simply kill a Sovereign whose affinity matched their own.

The moment they refined that Sovereign spark, their strength would increase by at least ten thousandfold, immediately reaching a level more than ten times stronger than an elemental Chief Sovereign.

If the other Sovereigns had heard Locke's earlier outburst, then merely to preserve their own lives, they would probably have secretly united to eliminate Loran, Veer, and Grant before their own Sovereign sparks became targets.

"Locke, no matter what, Rena is already over three hundred years old."

"She has already become a Demigod in the Wind, Lightning, and Fate affinities. On top of that, she's a triple-element soul mutant. Her current strength is already comparable to that of an ordinary Highgod."

"Lilia, you yourself just said her strength is only comparable to an ordinary Highgod."

Although Lilia's persuasion had somewhat calmed Locke's anger, he still couldn't stop worrying about Rena.

"Lilia, all of Rena's current strength comes solely from fused divine power, allowing her to barely step into the Highgod level."

"But Rena can't possibly remain a Demigod forever, can she?"

"If she advances to God after fusing two Profound Mysteries first, then her strength won't change much."

"But if she advances normally without fusing any Profound Mysteries, then instead of becoming stronger, she'll actually become weaker and turn into nothing more than an ordinary God!"

The might of fused divine power did not increase simply because more types of divine power were involved.

Only divine powers of equal strength could fuse together to produce greater might.

Three different types of Demigod divine power could rival Highgod divine power.

But two types of Demigod divine power fused with one type of God divine power would actually be weaker than pure God divine power alone.

Only strength combined with strength could produce even greater strength.

Mixing strength with weakness would only create something weaker.

Hearing Locke say this, the Death Chief Sovereign slapped her forehead.

"Locke, have you become stupid?"

"Rena is a triple-element soul mutant. The strength of her soul is already several times greater than that of an ordinary Highgod."

"For Rena, fusing five Profound Mysteries is merely a matter of whether she wants to do it, not whether she can."

"And besides..."

"Didn't you personally forge an Overgod defensive artifact for Rena?"

"In this world, aside from the four Rule Chief Sovereigns, who else could break through an Overgod artifact that you personally crafted?"

"And also, didn't you seal a drop of your own blood essence inside Rena's body?"

"I know perfectly well that although you intended that drop of blood essence to nourish Rena's body and further increase the purity of her bloodline..."

"If she ever encounters real danger, the seal will automatically open slightly, allowing her to wield the power of that drop of blood essence for a limited time."

"When that happens, even if the one threatening Rena is a Sovereign, Rena would still be able to kill them."

"Haha... haha..."

After hearing Lilia list everything one by one, Locke couldn't help but laugh awkwardly.

Indeed...

Compared to his other descendants, Locke had devoted far more effort to Rena.

Moreover, unlike the others, everything he had invested in Rena was solely for one purpose—

To ensure her safety to the greatest extent possible.

The defensive artifact Rena carried had been forged by Locke from the same materials used to create spatial rings.

It was a spatial artifact that had reached the level of an Overgod artifact.

The moment Rena encountered danger, the sealed drop of Locke's blood essence inside her body would be released, activating the defensive Overgod artifact and unfolding a spatial domain.

As the owner of the Overgod artifact, Rena possessed a certain degree of control over that spatial domain, allowing her to use the three abilities of spatial Transfer, spatial Lock, and spatial Shatter.

Even a Sovereign, unless they possessed an Overgod artifact of the same level capable of breaking through the spatial domain, would only meet their death at Rena's hands.

Yet now, Locke completely ignored every safeguard he had painstakingly prepared for Rena.

Instead, he viewed her as though she were an ordinary person.

No...

In Locke's eyes, she was even more fragile than an ordinary Deity.

Perhaps only the powerless mortals of the material planes occupied the same position in his heart as Rena.

To him, it seemed as though everything in the world could threaten her and cause her harm.

Yet whenever he considered those dangers, Locke instinctively forgot every contingency he had prepared for her.

All he remembered was that Rena had only just become a Demigod...

This left the Death Chief Sovereign both exasperated and amused.

Having lived alongside Locke for so many years, this was the first time she had ever seen such a mindset from him.

Fortunately, seeing Locke's embarrassment, Lilia decided not to tease him any further.

Instead, she offered him one final reassurance.

"Don't worry."

"When Rena left, I had Nanessa secretly follow behind her."
