~LENORA'S POV
The demon's gaze didn't falter from those floating shards.
It didn't move from them even when the runes brightened.
It didn't move from them when the crowd's voices grew louder.
He was not looking at the demon I appeared to be. He was looking at my reflection which stared back at him from the polished surface of one of the hovering discs.
His eyes widened slowly, not in fear but in recognition.
He leaned forward against the chains, and his lips parted. "You are not of this realm." The words came out from his mouth but no one reacted.
A demon standing near us frowned. "What is he babbling about?"
Another gave a dry laugh. "He is already burning in his mind."
They heard madness, but Lucian and I heard something else. Lucian arm came around my waist firmly, drawing me back against his chest.
"Do not look at him," he said quietly near my ear.
"He sees me." I whispered, placing my arm over Lucian's.
"I know."
