"Are we considering that the Demon Council has a connection to the Shadow Covenant?"
Khaos turned her head slightly in my direction. "You suspect they work together?"
Zade's expression lost its humor entirely. "It sounded like it. If they mentioned sealing Alaric, then either they are involved with the Shadow Covenant..."
He paused, eyes narrowing slightly.
"Or they are the Shadow Covenant."
The weight of that possibility settled heavily in the room.
The Demon Council was not a rumor whispered in alleyways. They are groups of ancient, political force, governing the laws of the realm along side the ruler.
The Shadow Covenant, however, operated in silence and fracture, its motives are unclear and its methods are ruthless.
If the two were connected—
Alaric spoke again, thinking aloud. "If the Demon Council spoke to her in the dungeon, and now similar voices appear again..."
Zade finished the thought. "Then they are either watching her."
