I had come because he was the one place in Hell I no longer knew how to stay away from.
But when I stood just an arm's length away, he reached out suddenly and pulled me down onto his thighs so that I straddled him.
The sudden shift stole the breath from my lungs. Water sloshed around us as my hands braced against his shoulders, the heat of the bath and the press of his body making my thoughts scatter.
For a heartbeat, I wasn't sure whether to push away or lean closer, caught between instinct and desire.
"You came all this way," he murmured near my ear, his breath warm against my damp skin. "Do not pretend you intended to stand across the room and admire me from afar."
"I was not admiring you," I protested, though the words sounded weak even to my own ears.
His quiet laugh vibrated through his chest.
"You were furious."
"I was not furious."
"You were imagining ways to drown two innocent servants."
My lips parted in disbelief. "Zephyr."
