~Jade's POV~
I knew Isadora was bummed, but I did not know the right words to say to get her hopes high without smashing them should the situation not favour her.
Before I could respond, the bell signaling break rang through the training hall. Everyone immediately began gathering their things.
We had just started toward the exit when a voice cut through the noise.
"Jade."
I froze, already recognizing the gruff, commanding tone. Slowly, I turned to see Xander standing a few steps away, his dark gaze locked intensely on mine.
I turned back to Isadora and Ziva, offering a quick, apologetic smile. "I'll catch up with you guys in a minute," I told them.
Ziva gave me a knowing smirk, grabbing Isadora by the arm and pulling her toward the double doors, following the rest of the exiting students.
I made my way across the training mats toward where Xander stood. His jaw was clenched so tight a muscle ticked along his cheek.
