Then one of the nurses snapped her head up, her eyes locking onto us.
"Everyone out," she ordered firmly, already reaching for another set of tools.
"No."
Xander didn't hesitate.
The nurse barely spared us a glance. "Professors, we need space to work."
Xade said nothing. He simply folded his arms, his stance making it clear he was not moving.
"Our mate was poisoned in your academy," I replied evenly, though there was nothing calm about the tension coiling in my chest. "We are not leaving her."
The finality in my voice made her pause. Her eyes flicked between the three of us before she exhaled.
"I should have been there."
The thought settled heavily in my chest, refusing to shift no matter how much I tried to reason with it as I stood beside Jade's bed, watching her lie far too still.
