Chapter 48 - Scene 48:- A Date Among Legends (*)

The night had deepened—

Not suddenly. But quietly. Like something had settled over the world without asking permission.

Behind them, the Skybridge still shimmered in soft starlight—lanterns swaying, voices returning, life continuing as if nothing had happened.

But Sora and Null didn't stay.

Not this time.

Because the moment had shifted.

They walked. Side by side. Leaving behind the suspended bridge of starlight and stepping back into the luminous arteries of Lumeris.

The city stretched endlessly around them—alive, radiant, divine.

Their footsteps were slower now. Not aimless. Not hurried. Just measured. As if both of them were quietly adjusting to something new that had taken shape between them.

The city of Lumeris stretched around them in brilliance—lanterns drifting like low-hanging stars, mana currents weaving through streets like veins of light—

But tonight—it wasn't the city that held their attention.

It was the silence between them.

Not empty. Not awkward. But full.

Sora walked slightly ahead at first. By habit. By instinct.

But after a few steps—she slowed. Just enough.

Until—they were side by side again.

Not leading. Not following. Equal.

Null noticed. Of course he did.

He didn't comment. Didn't tease. Didn't break it. For once—he let something exist without picking it apart.

A soft breeze passed between them. Cool. Carrying the faint scent of night-blooming flowers from somewhere unseen.

Sora's fingers shifted slightly at her side. Then stilled.

Then—without looking at him—

"...Are you tired?"

Her voice was gentle. Quieter than before. Not formal. Not distant. Just careful.

Null glanced at her.

"No." A pause. Then, a little softer—"You?"

Sora shook her head. "No."

Another pause. But this one lingered longer. Because the real question wasn't that.

She exhaled softly.

"Null-san."

He hummed lightly. "Hmm?"

She hesitated. Just for a fraction of a second.

Then—"...There's somewhere I'd like to take you."

That got his attention. Not because of the words. But because of the tone.

This wasn't casual. This wasn't playful. This was intentional.

"Sounds serious," he said lightly. But not dismissively.

"It is."

She didn't sugarcoat it. Didn't deflect. Just honest.

Null studied her for a moment. Then—a small smile.

"Alright."

No questions. No resistance.

And that—more than anything—made something in her chest tighten. Just a little.

They walked again. This time—together. Truly.

The path shifted. From lively streets—to something quieter. Wider.

The buildings began to change. Less crowded. More monumental. White stone. Arched structures. Runic engravings that pulsed faintly under the night sky.

Then—it appeared.

At the end of a long ascending avenue—a structure stood. Vast. Silent. Ancient. Yet untouched by time.

---

Eventually—they arrived.

And even Null—stopped.

"Wow."

Before them stood a structure so vast, so impossibly grand, that it dwarfed everything around it.

The Legends Pantheon of Echoes rose before them like a monument carved directly from history itself.

It didn't feel like a building. It felt like a statement.

Towering white pillars carved from radiant stone rose toward the heavens, each etched with flowing scripts that shimmered faintly—names, perhaps, or histories too vast to be contained in words.

Massive arched gates stood open, framed by statues of figures both human and non-human—heroes frozen mid-stride, mid-battle, mid-sacrifice.

Above it all—a massive circular dome floated slightly above the structure rather than resting upon it, rotating slowly. Within its translucent surface—countless faint silhouettes flickered. Echoes. Memories. Legends that refused to fade.

The air itself felt different here. Heavier. Reverent. Like stepping into a place where time remembered everything.

Null tilted his head slightly.

"Alright." A pause. "Where are we?" He glanced sideways at Sora. "And more importantly…" A slight tilt of his head. "…is a museum really a standard date location here?"

Sora blinked once. Then—very faintly—she smiled.

"This is not just a museum."

Her voice softened slightly.

"This is the Legends Pantheon of Echoes." She turned her gaze toward the towering structure. "A sacred historical site that preserves the belongings, records, and echoes of legendary figures from across the world."

A step forward.

"Moreover, this place houses one of the greatest Hall of Heroes in the world."

Null's eyes shifted back to the structure. Listening.

"Those who are enshrined here…" Sora continued quietly. "…are individuals whose actions shaped the course of humanity itself."

A pause.

"Their lives… their sacrifices… their contributions…" Her voice lowered. "…are recorded and honored so they may never fade."

A soft breath.

"To be remembered here…" A faint pause. "…means they are worthy of becoming an unforgettable pillar of humanity."

Silence.

Null looked at the structure again. Longer this time.

"Ohh." A small nod. "That's amazing."

Then—his eyes slid sideways. Back to her.

"But Sora." A beat. "Why are we here on a date?"

A slight tilt of his head.

"Wait." His eyes narrowed faintly. "Don't tell me…" A slow, dangerous smile formed. "…one of your hobbies is exploring history—" He leaned just a little closer. "…and you brought me here to give me a full guided lecture?"

Sora blinked. "That is not—"

"Because I should warn you," a pause, "I'm not academically prepared for this kind of ambush."

"Null-san."

"I didn't bring notes." Another beat. "Should I be concerned?"

"Null-san."

"Will there be an exam at the end?"

"NULL-SAN."

She snapped—finally. Her composure cracked just enough. A faint flush spread across her cheeks.

Null's grin deepened, entirely unapologetic.

"How cute."

Sora's brain short-circuited.

"C-Cute—?!" Her face turned red instantly.

Then—her voice dropped to a frantic whisper. "N-Null-san, you cannot just say things like that in public—!" She glanced around instinctively, as if the statues themselves might overhear. "And I do not trap people into lectures!"

A beat. A smaller voice followed—"At least not for extended durations…"

Null blinked once. "So time-limited lectures?"

"THAT IS NOT THE POINT."

A breath. A pause.

Then—"You are impossible."

A small, defeated exhale.

Then—she straightened. Composed herself. Barely.

"Ahem." A soft throat clear. "Null-san." Her voice steadied. "While it is true that I enjoy exploring history…" A pause. Her gaze shifted slightly. "…that is not why I brought you here."

Null's grin faded slightly. Curiosity returning.

"Oh?" A beat. "Then why?"

Silence.

For just a moment. The wind moved softly through the pillars. The glowing inscriptions shimmered faintly.

Sora's fingers tightened slightly at her side.

Then—she spoke. Quietly. Clearly.

"I brought you here…" A small pause. "…to tell you the true reason why you were summoned to this world."

Null stilled. Completely.

The air shifted. Subtly.

"Although…" Sora continued. "…it may no longer change anything…" Her voice softened. "…I believe it is only fair that you know."

Silence.

Null's gaze sharpened.

"True reason?" A slight frown. "Wasn't it about preparing for the unsealing of that evil divinity or something?"

Sora shook her head. Slowly.

"That is true." A pause. "But not for you."

Null's brows furrowed. "What do you mean?"

Sora turned. Fully now. Facing him. Her expression—calm. But serious.

"You were not supposed to be summoned."

The words landed quietly. But they hit hard.

"What?" A beat.

"You were not supposed to be part of the otherworldly summoning ritual."

Null stared at her. His mind—already moving. Already connecting threads.

"Then how did I—"

Sora turned away slightly. Toward the entrance.

"Come." A gentle motion forward. "Let's visit the Hall of Heroes."

A pause. Her voice softened—but carried something deeper now.

"I will explain everything on the way."

Null stood there for a moment longer. Watching her. Watching the Pantheon. Watching the path ahead—that suddenly felt far less like a date… and far more like a revelation waiting to unfold.

Then—"Yeah." He exhaled softly. And followed.

Together—they stepped into the Legends Pantheon of Echoes.

Where the past—was never truly silent.
