Chapter 51 - Scene 51:- Finale By White Date (#)

The night welcomed them again—quieter than before.

When Sora and Null stepped out of the Legends Pantheon of Echoes, Lumeris had already begun to settle. The crowds had thinned to scattered silhouettes, and the lanterns now drifted higher, their glow softer, less insistent.

Above them, the great white moon stretched across the sky, vast and unmoving.

For a while, neither of them spoke.

They walked side by side—down marble steps worn smooth by time, past silent colonnades, across an open plaza where moonlight pooled like pale water.

At some point, the path shifted.

The rigid grandeur of the Pantheon gave way to something quieter, more intimate. The stone softened into curved pathways, the air carrying the faint scent of flowers.

A garden revealed itself beyond ivory walls and winding arches of climbing vines, as though it had been waiting just out of sight.

Moonlit trees spread their branches overhead, their silver leaves catching the light with every faint stir of wind. Low among the grass, clusters of soft bioluminescent flowers glowed with a subdued radiance.

At the center lay a small pond, its surface reflecting the enormous moon above with near-perfect clarity.

The entire place felt… unreal.

Not isolated, not hidden—just untouched by the noise of the world beyond it.

Null slowed to a stop.

"…Wow."

The word slipped out under his breath, softer than usual.

"…You've got some unfairly beautiful date spots in this city."

Sora's lips curved faintly.

"…This place is rarely visited at night. Most people prefer the lantern districts."

She stepped onto the curved stone path leading inward, her movements light, unhurried. Null followed easily.

"…Their loss."

They moved deeper into the garden, their footsteps quiet against the stone.

The stillness between them wasn't empty—it was deliberate. Neither of them seemed willing to be the one to break the moment too soon.

By the time they reached the pond, the silence had settled into something almost tangible.

Sora stopped.

Null came to stand beside her, resting a hand lightly against the railing as he looked out over the water. The moon's reflection trembled faintly with the slightest movement of air.

"…You know," he said at last, voice low, "this date escalated pretty fast."

Sora glanced at him. "…Did it?"

"…Yeah."

A faint smile touched his lips as he counted lazily on his fingers.

"…We started with a bad encounter with those hooligans. Then we visited a museum dedicated to the greatest heroes in history…" He paused briefly. " Then I learned my existence is basically a cosmic glitch."

The humor lingered—but only just.

"…That's a lot for one evening."

Sora gaze lowered slightly.

"…I'm sorry."

Null turned slightly, the casual edge in his posture easing.

"…For what?"

"…For burdening you with all of that tonight." Her voice was softer now. "I had planned something lighter… but once we came here… it didn't feel right to keep it from you."

The surface of the pond stirred with a passing breeze.

Null watched the ripples spread, then gave a small shake of his head.

"…No. I'm glad you told me."

She looked up, a trace of surprise crossing her expression.

"…You are?"

"…Yeah." He leaned back slightly against the railing. "Honestly, I would've figured something weird was going on eventually. Better it came from you."

He paused, his gaze drifting across the garden.

"…Besides… it makes things feel less random."

Sora tilted her head. "…Less random?"

"…Yeah."

Null gestured lightly, not at anything specific, but at everything—the quiet garden, the still water, the moon suspended above them.

"If someone really went that far to bring me here… then maybe me being here actually means something."

His voice softened, almost thoughtful.

"…Even if I don't know what it is yet."

Sora gazed at him, her expression softening in a way she didn't seem fully aware of.

"…Null-san."

"…Hmm?"

"…Do you regret it?"

He met her eyes.

"…Being summoned here. Losing your world. Your home."

The question lingered, heavier than anything that had been said before.

For several seconds, Null didn't answer. His gaze drifted upward instead, settling on the white expanse of the moon.

"…Sometimes."

The honesty came without hesitation.

"…Yeah."

He exhaled quietly.

He didn't try to hide it.

"I miss some things. My world. My old life… the normal stuff."

In his mind, though, the details were less abstract—late-night anime marathons, new manga releases, Gaming until sunrise. Arguing with strangers online about which series had the better protagonist.

Small things.

Meaningless things.

…Yeah. Mostly otaku stuff.

Sora's fingers curled slightly at her side.

"…But," Null continued.

He looked back at her.

"…If I went back right now… I'd probably miss this place too."

Her eyes widened faintly.

"…This world?"

"…Yeah."

He gestured lightly around them—the moon, the garden, the quiet night..

"It's strange. But I don't feel like a stranger here anymore."

A small, almost self-conscious smile formed.

He hesitated—just slightly.

"…Not since I met you."

Sora's breath caught.

The space between them shifted, subtle but unmistakable.

"…Null-san…"

Her voice had softened to something almost fragile.

"…What if… one day… you were given the chance to return?"

Null blinked. "…Back to my world?"

She nodded, though her gaze dipped.

"If the path opened again… if you could go home…"

A faint tension settled in her shoulders.

"…Would you take it?"

The question hung there, quiet but absolute.

Null didn't answer right away.

Instead, he watched her—the way she held herself just a little too still, the way her eyes avoided his, the quiet uncertainty she couldn't quite hide.

Then, slowly, he smiled.

Not teasing.

Not deflecting.

Just… gentle.

"…I don't know."

Sora looked up again. "…You don't?"

He shook his head.

"…No."

A breath left him, softer this time.

"…But I do know one thing."

"…What?"

His gaze lifted briefly to the moon, then returned to her.

"…I don't want tonight to end yet."

Sora stilled.

The words themselves were simple.

But there was nothing casual about the way he said them.

Her heart skipped.

"…N-Null-san…"

Null scratched lightly at the back of his neck, a faint hint of awkwardness returning.

"…Besides… didn't I promise you something?"

"…Promise?"

"…Yeah." He gave a small shrug. "If I ever got the chance to go back… I said I'd take you with me."

A brief pause.

"…As my honored tour guest."

For a moment, Sora simply stared at him.

Then a soft laugh escaped her.

Gentle. Warm.

"…Ah… that's right."

Her hand rose lightly to her chest, as if steadying something there.

"…You did promise me that."

A gentle smile lingered on her lips.

"…If that day comes… I will gladly accept the invitation."

The garden remained still around them, moonlight drifting softly across the pond.

Null let out a quiet breath, something easing in his expression.

"…Well… good."

Her smile lingered.

The quiet returned, settling more comfortably this time.

Not uncertain.

Not heavy.

Just… close.

They stood side by side, their shoulders nearly touching.

Neither moved away.

And neither seemed eager to move forward.

Because both of them understood—

If either of them said just a little more, something important might slip through.

Something neither of them was quite ready to face.

So they stayed there, letting the silence and understanding speak for them.

Time passed without urgency.

At some point, their shoulders brushed—lightly, almost by accident.

Neither reacted.

The moment simply… settled.

And slowly, their conversation began again. Smaller things. More personal things.

"…Sora," Null tilted his head.

"…Hmm?"

"…What's your home like?"

She blinked, the question catching her slightly off guard.

"…My home?"

"…Yeah."

His gaze drifted across the pond.

"You've told me about the world… but not much about where you're from. Your homeland. Your family."

A small pause.

"…I want to know."

For a moment, she watched the moon's reflection.

Then, slowly, she nodded.

"…My homeland is called the Luminous Duchy."

A quiet fondness entered her voice.

"It lies in the eastern hemisphere of the Atlantis Empire, far from the central capital."

The breeze passed softly through the garden.

"My home is in Life Dawn City—the duchy's capital. It rests beside a vast ocean, which made it one of the empire's primary trade hubs."

She continued, her tone steady, almost reflective.

"…Ships from many regions dock there. Merchant fleets, explorers, scholars… travelers from distant regions. They all pass through it."

Null listened quietly.

"But that isn't what it's best known for," she added.

"Life Dawn City is also known for its healing sanctuaries. It houses one of the largest Healer Associations in the world."

"…People come from many nations seeking treatment there."

A faint smile touched her lips.

"…Because of that, the city carries a very peaceful atmosphere."

Null nodded.

"…That sounds interesting. If possible, I'd love to visit it someday."

Sora glanced at him.

"…For the healing facilities?"

Null blinked.

"…Why would I go to a healing center when I literally have the 'Healing Diviness' standing beside me?"

She flushed faintly.

Null smiled, softer this time.

"…I want to see it because it's your home."

She held his gaze for a moment, then her expression softened.

"…Thanks. That's sweet of you."

Her eyes drifted briefly toward the moon.

"…If the opportunity ever arises… I will gladly take you there."

Null's grin returned.

"…Oh? So that means I'd have to meet your parents, right?"

She nodded calmly.

"That would be unavoidable."

Null chuckled.

"I don't mind."

Then his eyes glinted lightly with mischief.

"…But I'm curious."

A brief pause.

"…How would you introduce me?"

He tilted his head.

"…As an observation subject?"

Another beat.

"…Or as your secret boyfriend?"
