Ricardo Quaresma scored directly from the free kick, giving Portugal a 1–0 lead over Switzerland.
"Great pass! Great foul won!" Quaresma shouted during the celebration, praising Kai and Cristiano Ronaldo.
As Sporting CP's golden boy, Quaresma was still trying to play the role of responsible big brother.
From that moment on, the match nearly became his personal stage.
Hugo Viana had been outstanding in the previous round and was tightly marked by Switzerland this time. As a result, Kai saw much more of the ball in midfield.
Kai constantly fed Quaresma passes, pulled defenders away for him, switched positions with him, and created space.
Quaresma looked lethal every time he touched the ball.
32nd Minute
Switzerland attempted a counterattack, but Kai's aggressive pressing forced a misplaced pass.
Raul Meireles intercepted easily and launched a long ball into the box.
Hélder Postiga pressured the Swiss center-back into a weak headed clearance, directing the ball toward the right side of the penalty area.
Quaresma cut inside without the ball and struck a classic outside-of-the-boot volley.
The ball curled beautifully toward the far corner.
But Switzerland were lucky — a defender near the far post blocked it, and the rebound bounced to the left side of the box.
Ronaldo, who had also cut inside aggressively, found the ball right in front of him and smashed a follow-up shot.
Postiga was open beside him.
But Ronaldo didn't even look at him.
The ball hit the net.
2–0.
Postiga spread his hands at first, wanting to complain, but when the ball went in, he immediately joined Ronaldo in celebration.
Was he unhappy? Of course.
But in football, whoever scores is king.
Portugal U16 extended their lead to 2–0, and that scoreline held until halftime.
Halftime
Quaresma, unusually serious, discussed positional rotations with Kai.
Their first-half chemistry had produced brilliance — and a few mistakes.
Both wanted perfection.
Second Half
Switzerland began with aggressive pressing.
But Coach Violante had anticipated this.
Portugal shifted into possession mode.
Quaresma and Postiga frequently dropped deeper.
Postiga acted as a target man.
Quaresma's dribbling and ball control stabilized midfield.
After ten minutes of frantic pressing, Switzerland's possession rate had actually dropped.
55th Minute
Viana seized the moment as Swiss players tired. He surged through midfield, combining with Ronaldo in a quick wall pass to beat a defender.
From the left side of the box, Viana fired a powerful shot.
The Swiss goalkeeper produced another stunning save.
The rebound fell into chaos.
It was eventually cleared awkwardly to the edge of the area — right toward Kai.
Kai drew back like an archer and unleashed a volley.
A thunderbolt.
The Swiss goalkeeper guessed correctly again, but—
The ball slightly changed direction mid-flight.
Whoosh.
Goal.
3–0.
Before Kai even reacted, Quaresma sprinted over from the box, grinning wildly, rubbing his backside as he ran.
Slow-motion replay revealed the truth:
Kai's shot had struck Quaresma's butt.
Without that deflection, the keeper might have saved it.
Officially? Quaresma's goal.
Unofficially? Assisted by Kai's missile and Quaresma's ass.
Two goals today courtesy of passive butt involvement.
Quaresma loved it.
Kai wasn't just skilled. He had high football IQ and was selfless.
More importantly, Quaresma now believed Kai was his lucky charm.
A goal-generating machine.
Sporting's most affectionate partner.
71st Minute
Switzerland made an attacking substitution, replacing a midfielder with a forward in a desperate gamble.
It backfired.
Viana was completely liberated.
After drawing defenders centrally, he switched play to a free Quaresma on the right.
Seeing both Postiga and Ronaldo well-positioned, Quaresma resisted the urge to showboat and delivered a perfect cross.
Postiga recognized the trajectory wasn't meant for him. He made a near-post run, dragging a defender away and missing the ball intentionally.
Ronaldo charged from behind and headed toward goal.
But he directed it too straight.
The ball struck the goalkeeper's legs.
Chaos again.
The ball was hacked clear.
It rolled to Kai outside the area.
Completely unmarked.
Switzerland had no energy left to track a "small role" like him.
Kai blasted a long shot.
The ball struck a defender's arm and went out for a corner.
Kai immediately raised his hand.
"Handball!"
The referee pointed to the spot.
Penalty.
Switzerland were collapsing.
Quaresma hugged Kai tightly.
Another gift.
Penalty taker? Of course, the superstar.
Goal.
4–0.
Hat trick.
The commentators went wild:
"Quaresma completes his hat trick! Possibly the easiest of his career!"
"A free kick. A deflected butt goal. A penalty."
"Today, Kai and Ronaldo fully supported Big Brother!"
"Quaresma owes them both a feast!"
"Sporting CP's academy is terrifying. Almost every goal came from their players!"
"Viana, Quaresma, Ronaldo, Kai — imagine the future when they all reach the first team together!"
"A youth storm!"
"If nothing unexpected happens, all four could enter the Primeira Liga within three to five years."
"Their combined transfer value in the future might exceed 30 or even 40 million euros!"
Quaresma, scoring his first national youth hat trick, was ecstatic.
The four Sporting boys embraced.
Teammates joined one after another.
Yes, there was competition among them.
But victory solves everything.
