Chapter 126 - Chapter 126 Blitz of Poland

On the eve of the final group-stage match of the European U16 Championship, Jerzy Dudek, Poland's highly rated goalkeeper, gave an interview expressing confidence in Poland's chances.

Dudek was playing for Feyenoord in the Eredivisie and had just won the league's Best Goalkeeper award for the first time.

Reports claimed that Premier League giants like Liverpool FC, Manchester United, and Arsenal FC were monitoring him.

Dudek said:

"The third round is the final group-stage match. Poland still has a chance to qualify."

"The Czech Republic's attack is weak. It will be difficult for them to take all three points from Switzerland."

"As long as we defeat Portugal, we can finish top of the group."

When asked about Portuguese players, Dudek replied:

"In my opinion, the best striker of this generation is Robin van Persie."

"I've trained with him. I believe that within three years, he'll be good enough to play regularly for Feyenoord."

"Van Persie once told me that Kai is someone to watch out for. He doesn't look physically dominant, but he always finds a way to change a match."

Portuguese rising star Cristiano Ronaldo was furious when he heard about the interview.

You both played in youth competitions — why does Van Persie only mention Kai as dangerous?

What about me?

How dare you ignore Ronaldo?

Ronaldo was so angry he stayed after training and practiced shooting for a full hour.

Goalkeeper Bruno Vale suffered miserably, begging coach Violante to replace him with someone else.

Violante coldly refused.

Now you understand what I went through in Sporting U15, don't you?

Elsewhere…

On the set of The Princess Diaries, the crew was still gossiping about "Hathaway's love affair."

Because of recent overtime caused by the incident, the production team planned to take a short break for everyone's mental health.

Someone tried to please Anne Hathaway and asked whether she planned to watch the European Youth Championship on the 17th.

"This match will determine who qualifies," they said. "Czech Republic, Switzerland, Poland and—"

Before they could finish, Hathaway calmly replied that she would stay on set and continue refining her performance.

The lead actress had spoken.

With the director backing her, everyone else reluctantly gave up on the idea of a vacation.

Filming continued.

June 17 — Final Group Match

All matches in Portugal's group kicked off simultaneously to avoid manipulation.

Polish football had always emphasized defense.

Their counterattacks were dangerous.

They relied heavily on wing crosses.

Simple tactics — but at national team level, where chemistry is limited, simplicity can be lethal.

First Half

Within five minutes, Portugal asserted control through individual brilliance.

Compared to Poland's rigid system, Portugal's style could almost be called artistic football.

9th minute — Quaresma's long-range shot sailed over the bar.

12th minute — Poland launched a counterattack, but José Fonte cleared the danger.

16th minute —

Postiga dropped deep.

Viana passed and moved forward.

As Hélder Postiga received the ball with his back to goal, a Polish defender crashed into him from behind, aiming to poke the ball away — but instead smashed into Postiga's right Achilles tendon.

Postiga collapsed immediately.

After examination, the team doctor signaled for a substitution.

Postiga was out.

Portugal lost their main striker.

His junior teammate Almeida came on.

Almeida was taller, but technically inferior to Postiga. His hold-up play and link-up ability were clearly weaker.

Less than a minute after entering the pitch, Almeida made a costly mistake.

During a crossing movement with Quaresma, he miscontrolled and passed directly to Poland's center-back.

The Polish defender launched a long clearance.

Twenty seconds later—

Polish fans erupted.

Goal.

1–0 Poland.

Bruno Vale looked devastated.

The shot itself wasn't high quality.

But the pitch was terrible — full of small potholes. Barely visible to the eye, but enough to cause unpredictable bounces.

The ball skipped awkwardly right before reaching him.

Still, it counted as a mistake.

After scoring, Poland fully retreated.

They built a defensive fortress inside their penalty area.

An "11-0-0" formation.

Are you scared yet?

With physical challenges bordering on brutal, Portugal struggled to create real chances.

32nd Minute

Quaresma combined with Kai.

Kai surged forward; Quaresma dropped deep and cut inside vertically.

But Poland's defensive midfielder reacted instantly, charging out to block Quaresma and denying him any space to turn.

Quaresma was knocked down.

Free kick to Portugal.

Too far for a direct attempt, so they played it short.

The cross flew into the box.

Ronaldo's run was blocked — he couldn't get there in time.

Almeida battled for position and nearly connected, but the ball drifted out for a goal kick.

39th Minute

Kai dropped deeper and passed to Viana.

Right-back José Bosingwa overlapped forward.

Viana switched play to Bosingwa.

Quaresma cut inside, dragging defenders with him — he was Poland's top defensive priority.

Bosingwa gained space and delivered a cross.

Almeida fought fiercely with the Polish center-back and managed to head the ball.

But the header was poor — far off target.

44th Minute

Portugal produced a rare, smooth ground combination.

Viana showcased his dribbling talent, drawing defenders before driving toward the left side of the penalty area.

Ronaldo sprinted onto the ball and attempted to beat the center-back.

As he stepped across the defender—

He fell.

Portugal immediately appealed for a penalty.

The commentator shouted excitedly, "This could be a penalty!"

But shockingly—

The referee did not point to the spot.

Instead, he showed Ronaldo a yellow card.

Simulation.

Diving.

Ronaldo trembled with rage.

He swore there had been contact.

Ever since Kai once beat him with a cleverly drawn penalty in a youth invitational tournament, Ronaldo had been studying how to win fouls inside the box.

He had practiced hard.

He was ready to test it.

And now the referee called it diving?

Do you even understand basic acting theory?

Have you never heard of Stanislavski?

Ronaldo was about ready to explode.
