Killian gulped, feeling a sudden chill ripple down his spine.
He knew with absolute certainty that if his answer wasn't up to par, Severine might get genuinely angry at him.
It was entirely understandable; he would have completely flipped if he found out someone had played him behind the scenes, no matter how noble the underlying intention.
There were many calculated things he could have said. He could have claimed he simply saw the brilliant future of Meadow Holdings and Nuxe, or he could have spun a flawless corporate lie to smooth over the rough edges.
Yet, when he opened his mouth, all his calculated defenses vanished, and only one raw sentence came out.
"I just wanted to get close to you."
