The Sandaime didn't speak at once; he simply took a long, deep pull on his pipe. Hazy smoke slowly curled between the two of them, veiling the old man's weathered features. After a long while, he reached into the folds of his robe and drew out a slightly worn scroll. Its edges were yellowed with age, yet the seal remained perfectly intact.
"Naruto." The Sandaime's voice carried a trace of thick emotion as he solemnly placed the scroll into Naruto's hands.

"This is the secret training method passed down through the Uzumaki Clan, left by Lady Mito, wife of the First Hokage." The Sandaime watched Naruto carefully, a flicker of guilt in his eyes. "I'd planned to give it to you once you finished the basics of sealing, but I never imagined you would teach yourself the Compendium I gave you by mistake."
Naruto accepted the scroll, his fingertips registering its fine, silk-like texture. He realized that the "Compendium" he'd been studying was actually a forbidden collection of S-rank seals, while this new scroll held the keys to his own heritage: the Adamantine Sealing Chains and the Kagura Mind's Eye.
"I'll master the techniques inside as quickly as I can," Naruto said, his blue eyes burning with focus.
The Sandaime set a second, smaller scroll gently on the sofa. "No rush, Naruto. You have the talent and the will to protect Konoha; this old man will always support you." With those words, the Hokage rose, his cloak swirling as he stepped out into the night.
Naruto picked up the second scroll. The instant he unrolled it, his breath hitched. This recorded the life's work of the Fourth Hokage.
It wasn't just the Flying Thunder God Technique and the Rasengan; it included derivatives that Naruto had only heard of in legends: Guiding Thunder, Second Step, and the ridiculously named Spiraling Flash Super Round Dance Howl Style Three. The margins were densely packed with Minato's neat, elegant handwriting, detailing every failure and breakthrough.
Has the old man lost his mind? Giving something like this to me? Naruto stared at the ink. This was a state secret.
"That old man is finally showing his hand," the Nine-Tails rumbled within the seal. "Looks like he's truly resolved to turn you into the next Yellow Flash."
"I'm starting right now," Naruto declared. With the Fourth's personal notes, the spatial paradoxes that had been tripping him up suddenly became clear. "I'll have the formula engraved in four days."
"Naruto, we've got a new mission!"
Sakura knocked on Naruto's door, Sasuke standing silently beside her. No sound came from inside. Sasuke's brow furrowed; he leapt onto the balcony and peered through the window.
The sight was staggering. Leftover ramen containers and unwashed dishes were piled messily on the table; scrolls were strewn across the floor like a paper sea. The tidy home he remembered was a disaster zone.
He flipped inside and opened the door for Sakura. They hurried to the bedroom and froze. There was Naruto, blond hair a bird's nest, dark circles under his eyes, but a manic, silly grin on his face.
Seeing them, Naruto tossed the scroll onto the bed, his hoarse voice cracking with excitement: "You guys! I did it!"
For four days, Naruto had used Shadow Clones to handle the boring D-rank missions while his original body stayed locked in this room with three other clones, subsisting on cold snacks and sheer willpower. He had barely slept, often jumping up mid-doze to scribble a new spatial coordinate on the wall.
He hadn't reached the Fourth's level of "instantaneous" flight yet, but he had mastered the bridge. He, Uzumaki Naruto, had deciphered the most difficult Space-Time Ninjutsu in existence in under a week.
Sasuke and Sakura exchanged baffled glances. They couldn't understand why their usually composed teammate looked like a shipwrecked survivor who had just found a chest of gold.
