"So what do we do now?" Naruto looked at Kakashi. "If she refuses to go, are we supposed to knock her out and drag her along?"
"She's already out. We'll leave as soon as you two show up." Sasuke said flatly, shooting a meaningful glance at Kakashi—who was holding a book disguised with a Ninja Handbook cover but was actually reading the newly released Make-Out Tactics.
While they'd been waiting, Kakashi had used a Sharingan genjutsu to put the stubborn actress temporarily to sleep. Asama Sandaifu stood to one side, rubbing his hands in embarrassment, clearly grateful yet a little uneasy about the method.
Talk about efficiency, Naruto thought. He had already guessed how Kakashi had done it. One Sharingan illusion and the target's eyes had rolled back, consciousness gone.
"All right." Kakashi slid the book back into his pouch and clapped his hands. "Now that you two are here, we're all set. Mr. Asama, bring Miss Yukie; let's get moving."
Sunlight slanted through the small round porthole, casting a quivering patch of light across the dim cabin. Fuji Fuuyuki's thick lashes fluttered; she slowly lifted heavy eyelids. The first thing she saw was not the familiar ceiling of her inn room in Konoha.
A wooden ceiling? And a faint, rhythmic sway… a ship?
The realization shot through her groggy mind like a blast of ice! She bolted upright on the narrow bunk. Asama Sandaifu stepped in, wearing an awkward, placating smile. "Miss Yukie, I was just about to wake you…"
Through the open door, she saw blue sky and white-capped sea—cruel confirmation that she'd been swept away. Rage and panic overwhelmed her. Barefoot and in only a thin silk nightgown, her black hair tumbling loose, she rushed for the door.
"What is going on!" A cry of fury tore from her throat. She shoved Asama aside and sprinted for the hatch, bare feet drumming on the rough planks. She flung the cabin door wide; it slammed against the bulkhead with a bang. Cold, briny wind burst in, whipping her nightgown.
Barefoot, she stormed onto the wide deck. The biting chill wrapped her ankles, yet the tempest inside her dwarfed any physical cold.
"Looks like Miss Fuji Fuuyuki is quite lively," Kakashi lounged against the rail. The client had paid above A-rank rates specifically for him—one of the few Konoha Ninja who had actually been to the Land of Snow.
"Of course—Yukie's always full of energy!" The silver-haired director beamed at the pouting heroine.
Though it was summer, the temperature dropped steadily as they sailed north. Naruto silently pulled a blanket from his pouch; Sakura took it and hurried toward the shivering actress.
"Your pouch really holds a lot," Sasuke eyed the pack at Naruto's waist.
"I'm good with Sealing Techniques," Naruto tapped the pouch. "Want me to rig one for you? It's a large trunk sealed inside. The space is bigger, but the pouch stays as heavy as the trunk itself."
"I'll pass," Sasuke turned away. He lacked Naruto's monstrous stamina; for a combat specialist, speed beat storage capacity every time.
Gulls wheeled overhead, crying sharply. Naruto yawned and lazily shut his eyes. Kakashi had warned him not to over-train during the voyage to stay fresh for ambushes. If he couldn't practice Taijutsu, he would hone the sensor art: Kagura Mind's Eye.
According to the Uzumaki scroll, those who hadn't awakened it at birth had to master the Inner Eye Mind-Sight Technique first. It was a prerequisite exercise to open the "mind's eye."
Naruto formed the seals in secret and let his chakra drift outward. At once, his perception shifted: a 360-degree vision unfolded. Within five meters, everything became crystal clear—cabin beams, ropes beneath the deck, even fish under the waves. Each was rendered as a glowing point in his mind.
Sasuke glanced at him, sensing a subtle shift in Naruto's aura, but seeing only his friend at rest, he turned back to the horizon. None of them realized that Naruto was now experiencing the world in an entirely new way.
